Hey guys, how about supporting a fellow fan of LBA?
He needs his app to be translated to a few languages (he's got English, French, Flemish and Polish so far). As our community consists of people from all around the world, it shouldn't be too hard to help him!


If you wanna know what languages are needed, here is a list.
Hungarian... Polly? Portuguese... SGK?
Or actually, anyone? Please!

Hey thanks for posting this Kaka.

Actually German, Greek, Portuguese, Italian, Japanese, Russian, Spanish and Turkish are all 95% completed, so those are basically dealt with.

QuickLyric is an Android app that takes care of lyrics. You can find a longer description, along with the source code over at GitHub. You'll find a download link as well.

There are about ~40 strings (can be as short as 1 word or as long as 1 sentence) to translate. In my experience it takes maybe 15 minutes for a bilingual person. Just so it's clear: the link Kasia posted is not just the list. It's the platform on which you can submit your translations.

If you decide to translate:

• You'll have contributed to an open source project, which is always cool to brag about. (or not)
• If you ever visit Belgium I'll buy you a drink.

I'm a fluent portuguese speaker (I live in Brazil), so I think I can help you with that.
What is the dead line for the translation? Currently, I don't have a lot of free time, but I would be glad to help you (looks like it won't take long, so it should be no problem)

Actually I wonder whether Brazilian currently get the "European" Portuguese translations when they use the app. Would that be a good compromise until the Brazilian translation is taken care of?

"European" portuguese is actually pretty close to our portuguese. There are minor differences here and there, such as punctuation and same words meaning different things, but I believe a brazilian wouldn't have much trouble to understand it.

Edit: I was translating the text a few minutes ago, but for some reason it doesn't send the suggestion. I'm thinking about lag on the website (not my internet, since I can open anything else with no lag at all). I will finish translating during my work break

I just want to point out that, without a context, some of the translations might not be perfect. For example, "Select all" could be "Selecionar todas" (for female) or "Selecionar todos" (for male). Whether you should use one or another depends on the situation. Portuguese is a very difficult language because of things like that.

Also, the proper translation to Lyrics is "Lírica", but since most of the brazilian population doesn't use that word, I have instead changed it to "Letra". I think it would fits much better in this situation.

Thanks man. Do you have an Android device? That way you could check if something's incorrect due to a particular context.

I have troubles with the word "scrobbling", what does it mean exactly ? Will it publish a list of songs ?

Hey thanks Polaris! If you pay attention, some translations are greyed out (e.g. scrobbling). Don't worry about those.

Actually "Look and feel" isn't used anymore. Maybe I should uncheck it as well.

This website is dedicated to localizations. There's a pretty good chance they handle all sorts of weird characters. Besides, everybody uses UTF-8 these days.

Kind of. It's much like "He, she, IT" from engish. Tudo is used when you want to talk about everything in general, not caring about gender. Like you said, its like a neutral word.




I have downlodaded the app, and made a few changes to the translation. It should feel much more natural the way it is right now.

French does have a neutral gender, it's just indistinguishable from the masculine gender. At least that's what I remember from school .

Hungarian is interesting because it's one of the few languages that aren't part of the big Indo-European family. Or even the slavic one. As far as I know it's very much its own thing. That's probably why it doesn't have genders.

Hungarian is a Finno-Ugric language, same as Finnish and Estonian. Basically all the other languages of Europe are Indo-European, so these 3 are pretty unique.
