Techniques

Well, now i need some help from other projects.

I didn't modeled objects only with an isometric reference image until now. So please share LBA scene modelling techniques with me.

I saw that Firephoenix and Darkflame has some good techniques.

Best Regards, Xakep_INC.

Technics to model scenes with a reference image? Well it's really if you want to respect the exact proportions of a scene that you have to use the technic of the isometric view imitation.
Place in the perspective view a background image of the isometric game scene, and then move the view until obtaining the same angle of view than the isometric one. Then you can place lines, crosses and such helpers in the scene for them to match what you see in the perpective view (place all those objects on the XY base grid, they must represent the bases of the walls, the positions of the doors...and place some vertical lines to have an idea of the walls' height), and then you can model the scene around those helpers.

But after that there is no really need of a big accuracy, place the objects in the scene just as you feel it.

BTW - I thought you made an original engine/game. Why would you have to reproduce existing scenes ? If I were you I'd take benefit of the total creativity fgreedom that's offered to me

Hmm...

First i want to make some demo scenes on existing LBA locations, then when i will get used to the game's style, i will try to make some scenes from imagination.

Dont touch to the Citadel island, you should soon be able to make tests in Twinsen's house. And it'll be the good occasion to see if your engine supports HEAVY scenes Nah its polygon count will be easily reduceable, dont worry ^^

hmz..I think desert island/white leaf desert might be a better place to expirment with an engine.
Starting with an interiour will be quite hard. (not just more polygons, but you will need to work on camera/cliping ect)
Start with a nice open landscape, then work on to the harder stuff.

Take a wide nurbs surface, move the surface points randomly, add 2-3 cactus and some stones, you got it.

Or for another exterior scene you could try the Citadel Lupin Bourg one, which can also be reduced in the poly count You can create your own desert island like FP said, or wait till the RMP does it

Firephoenix:
There is much more in the citadel island than just stones and some sand. The cementary and the city are pretty important too.

kaderoboy:
I don't know where to get that citadel island scene, can you send it to me or upload it somewhere?

Desert island is a good scene to start with, Id love to see that in real time 3D.
Its also good because you can keep "adding" detail to it. (but with citidale island, some have to be done in big blooks)

Xakep> Well I really need to make sure its 100% perfect as the scenes about 20 MB I recently modelled the Citadel harbour though, if that's any use to you

Alien> Try posting the render again. If you can create some LBA scenes consider the Relentless Movie Project as well, new modellers are always appreciated ^_^

Btw, an early version of the harbour, still needs proper texturing

The harbour is pretty good but i'm afraid that it will be impossobile to render in realtime... I think i will make Desert Island.

Yeah it's looking good, zoom in on that fire

Xakep> Yeah that's the problem, same with the Citadel scene, far too many polygons

Nope imo that harbour scene would be well renderable in realtime, if optimized, cause there are no especially round forms, and many objects there could have a quite low polygon count...you'll have to spend time optimizing one by one the objects, but after that it looks neat for a realtime render.

alien - well I dunno if it's my screen, but I can only see 3 fires on your pic (neat fires BTW ). Why do you say your skills are limited to dark scenes ??? Can you model objects or characters ?
