Even though this thread is old, will post it here, because Google immediately shows this thread on the request "games similar to LBA".
I have started playing a new game called Outer Wilds yesterday, and it surprisingly has a lot of LBA spirit regarding a lot of its aspects. I'm sure the creators played LBA. Other than LBA, this game has something from Psychonauts. I would advice this game to any LBA fan, as it's first time I experience a game that allowed me to have that feeling of LBA. Here is a very good 10 minutes gameplay video |

I think Shenmue is a spiritual successor to Little Big Adventure. Especially the first one that is completely surreal in its tone and atmosphere.

To be honest, there aren't really any games similar to LBA's...
... Unless, we make one. ![]()

In our world, we put a message inside a bottle to protect it while it travels through the oceans to reach some other island. In other worlds, they put a message inside an asteroid to protect it while it travels through space to reach some other planet. In this case it is a gift, a guitar, rather than just a message. |

In terms of technology - software rendered low-poly characters on prerendered backgrounds - there's a few:
- Alone in The Dark (1992) - Also created by Frederick Raynal - Alone in The Dark 2 and 3 - Not created by F.R., but the same technology - The City of Lost Children (1997) - a French adventure game with voiced dialogues. Not great, but looks very much like LBA2 - Ecstatica (1994) and Ecstatica 2 (1996) - Weird adventure/horror game with ellipses used instead of polygons. Also has the fighter pigs that you encounter in LBA2 in Emperor's palace. - Dark Earth (1997) - French action/adventure set on post-apocalyptic Earth. Features Twinsen's voice actor. Other games by Delphine/Adeline (I don't know if the same people were involved, but they have a more or less "dark French cartoon" feel): - Another World (1991) - 2D platformer set in dystopian world - Flashback (1992) - 2D platformer, sequel to Another World - Fade To Black (1996) - 3rd person 3D-action, sequel to Flashback - Time Commando (1996) - Created by Frederick Raynal. Also, uses "3D on 2D" technology Other French games (they might have the same people who created LBA, or may not, but generally I mean the ones that have the style of French cartoons/comics): - It seems I've already mentioned some of them. For the list, look here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catego...oped_in_France All of these games are pretty old, so even if you manage to get and run them, they have rather clunky and uncomfortable controls. |

@Space Guitarist: You are welcome. You are also welcome to explore the list of French video games and find the ones that similar (I believe Frederick Raynal's work influenced many other developers back in the days).
Also, I found out there were an alternative sequel to Another World - Heart of the Alien (1994), but it never was released for PC. Also, I remember an Australian animated TV series for kids I watched in my childhood: "New Adventures of Ocean Girl (2000)". It's not similar to LBA stylistically, but the plot is pretty close: - There's a planet where 4 races were living in peace and harmony - The harmony was kept by 4 crystalls, guarded by Holy Whales - An evil sorcerer stole one of the crystals to gain magic power - As a result, snow melted, covering the planet with water, flooding cities and making people live underwater - A girl from another planet arrives to collect the 4 crystals, defeat the sorcerer and save everyone, as it was told in the ancient prophecy I don't think it's worth watching now, it's too naive, simple and boring for adults to enjoy. But I wonder if it was influenced by LBA in some way. |

- Time Gate: Knight's Chase (1994) by Infogrames. Adventure game with 3D lowpoly models on pre-rendered backgorunds. P.S. need to check more old games by Infogrames |

Another one I've remembered.
Dreams / Dreams to Reality by Cryo Interactive is similar to the LBA in terms of aesthetics. Not the gameplay though. And only PS1 version, PC version has different look and feel. |
