I don't know how I feel about a videocall with SG, but after all, why not have a virtual meet. Maybe talking face-to-face would indeed help all of us.

By organisation, do you mean picking a platform, a day and time, or do you mean moderating the whole thing ?

Video calls are different of real-world meetings, in that two or more people can't just have a side-chat, so there needs to be a pseudo-animator of sorts.

Neko can be that animator! I’m happy with any platform, though if someone has a Zoom subscription I’d prefer that just as I know it. I find we regret things we don’t do more than do do (or some shit like that), so let’s just do this. I’m not cynical and think it would be great. :-D

If someone has a subscription to it, Zoom could be nice as it allows for separating people in smaller chat rooms for a set period of time.
Other than that, most of us have Dicord I think, which also works pretty well.

Discord.com is cool, do we need a licence for group call?

Nope. From what I found, if we do it on a server, the limit is 25 participant. For simple group call, some comments dated to three years ago say the limit is 10.

I think we should make a Google Excel sheet where people would write their name and their timezone in GMT± format.

I think it's a very cool idea and I'm happy to organize it (or help organizing it).
How about we for now vote for a few options in a non-anonymous poll for now? Then please cast your votes until Tuesday. For the time zone, I chose West-European time as default, for Israel I think you'd have to add one hour (google "15:00 CET to Tel Aviv time" or whatever).

I'm convinced that what Polaris mentioned about Zoom, with the ability to separate, is a good point, and as far as I know, Zoom works for free if it's <100 participants, which is enough for us If anyone's against Zoom, please let me know, and we can try Discord instead.

As far as I know with Discord everyone would have to first be friends with the organizer (I'm johannes#9970, also on the LBA Discord) and a serverless chat is limited to 10 people. As I said I personally would go with Zoom as a "safe option" as group calls are their core product, where I could send out a link for everyone to join, and CS2x seems to already know Zoom in and out. Or is there anything you prefer about Discord?

Eh, time has past since then. And letting emotion run loose on forum in written messages is a thing, but a video chat is something else. Of course I won't bring up past sensitive topics.

I think Zoom limits the call to 40 minutes or so, don't know what their politic is for groups.

On Discord, there are a few LBA servers, surely the speedrunners wouldn't mind us using their chatrooms '

I can do all the December dates, but if I'm honest will struggle with a morning time. So the 2nd and the 10th would be best...

It would be possible for me to learn how to use Discord - however, since I'm familiar with Zoom for music work stuff can't pretend that wouldn't be my ideal! Whatever is easiest for everyone, though. And I don't actually have a paid account with Zoom but usually relied on whoever's project it was to have theirs, so the 40 minute limit may be irritating (even if people can just rejoin.) It does work well for groups, though.

Overally I'm really up for this! There is no reason not to make it happen. As much as I'm thankful for in the flesh friends and family, something about this forum stuff still appeals to the young earlier-iterations-of-the-internet sci-fi utopian dreams...or something.
