Thumbs Up Which Titanic movie do you prefer.

Chose from one of the following:

Saved from the Titanic (1912)
The very first movie about the Titanic. It was made only some months after the actual disaster, and it starred Doroty Gibson, a First class survivor of the Titanic, who, in the movie, even wore the same dress that she wore the night of the actual disaster.

In Nacht und Eis (1912)
One of the very first movies about the Titanic. Poor special effects, but they were a real breakthrough for its time.
Made in Germany.

Atlantis (1913)
An early, Danish movie about the Titanic. The special effects were really poor, but it was still one of the very first movies about the Titanic that could be considered a movie in today's terms - as in, a full-length movie of at least an hour of length.

Atlantic (1929)
Tries to heavily fictioanlize the sinking of the Titanic, but it's still clear that it's about that. Better special effects than those in Ein Nacht Und Eis (1915).
Versions made in the U.K., Germany, and France.

Titanic (1943)
This is the notorious Nazi propaganda film, which was later banned by the Nazis themselves because they thought people would be depressed when watching other people dying. A lot of fictional scenes in Titanic (1997) were taken from this movie.

Titanic (1953)
The first Hollywood take on the disaster. Starring Clifton Webb and Barbara Stanywck.
This movie is notorious for its goofs, which make the movie historically almost completley inaccurate. It's also centered heavily around the fictional characters.

A Night To Remember (1958)
This is definitely THE movie about the sinking of the Titanic. Historically as accurate as possible. Based on the novel of the same name by Walter Lord.
Made in the U.K., and starring Kenneth More as Second officer Charles Herbert Lightoller and Bernard Fox as Second wireless operator Harold Bride.

S.O.S. Titanic (1979) (cut version)
This is a co-production U.K./U.S. movie about the Titanic, and this one is the cut version of it, which was released as a movie.
The sinking footage is just colorized footage from A Night To Remember (1958), but this movie also shows a lot of what happened before the Titanic's maiden voyage.

S.O.S. Titanic (1979) (full version)
The full, mini-series version of the above. This one was aired on TV as a mini-series in two parts, and I'm not sure if it was ever released on videotapr or DVD.

Raise the Titanic! (1980)
Based on the novel of the same name by Clive Cussler.
This movie takes a different spin on the Titanic subject, and actually shows the Titanic being raised from the ocean bottom, because one of her safes supposedly contain an important nuclear mineral which is to be used for U.S. anti-missile defense.

Titanic (1984)
A German TV movie, which mainly centers on two Titanic inquiries. From what I heard, it's a rather good movie.

Titanica (1995)
A 3-D IMAX movie about the Titanic.

Titanic (1996)
The U.S. miniseries about the Titanic. Starring Peter Gallagher and Catherine Zeta-Jones.
Initially intended as a remake of S.O.S. Titanic (1979), this movie centers mainly around some fictional characters. The ship's design is also full of goofs in this one.

Titanic (1997)
Probably the most popular Titanic movie that ever existed. The second Hollywood take on the disaster. Starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet.
The special effects are impressive, the camera shots as well, and it's also the first Titanic movie to have featured the actual wreck of the Titanic. However, the goofs are many, and the movie mainly centers around the fictional couple of Jack Dawson (DiCaprio) (Third class passenger) and Rose DeWitt Bukater (Winslet) (First class passenger).

Ghosts Of The Abyss (2002)
Yet another IMAX movie about the Titanic. I saw this one and it's very good. It combines the sinking of the Titanic with the actual shots of the wreck, with no fictional storyline.

I myself choose A Night To Remember (1958), because it's simply the best Titanic movie ever made.
I know that Titanic (1997) grossed more and was more popular, but A Night To Remember (1958) is simply way more historically accurate, even from the point of view of the music - Titanic (1997) played the American tune ("Bethany") of "Nearer My God To Thee", while the Titanic was a British ship, and the band consisted of British members.
Also, Titanic (1997) omits a lot of the actual events that happen during the sinking, such as the preparations that went on the rescue ship Carpathia, and the events on the small cargo ship Californian, which stayed 10 milies north of the Titanic, saw the Titanic's distress rockets being fired, and did nothing.

So, vote for the movie you prefer on the poll and drop by a post explaining your vote.

- Kobold: Actually, we're both wrong, and it's In Nacht und Eis, and it's even dated 1912, not 1915 as I erraneously stated above.

I've obviously only seen the 1997 one. It wasn't as bad as many people say.

Actually, yes. And there are both photos and films of the real Titanic and her older sister, the Olympic. Some of them you can even watch on YouTube nowadays.

No, it just centered mainly on a FICTIONAL couple, and even had REAL prople, such as the Titanic's lookouts, interact with them. Heck, they had the lookouts not seeing the iceberg in time because they were busy watching Jack and Rose making out, which of course can't be true.
Yeah... a really good movie that Titanic (1997) is.

Titanic (1997). I wasn't sure whether to pick that one or Atlantis (1913), but the acting in the former is a bit sharper.

- morshem: Fictional is bad when it changes history. And the "lookous watching Jack and Rose make out" scene in Titanic (1997) does.

To be honest, just because they spiced up the story a little bit by throwing some random romantics in there, I don't think that's any good reason to dislike the movie.
Also, Jack & Kate were both based on real people (iirc), and while things may not have happened exactly as the film shows, who's to say? At the end of the day, if that was the reason you missed the iceberg, would you admit it?

Titanic: A Poem:
Have any of you ever tried getting a shovel, or a rake, or
even a spoon, and digging in between your buttocks to
scratch pieces of poo, drips of blood, or even seeds and
toys out? You often find many seeds from the foodstuffs
you've been consuming.

- Ricochet: 1. Titanic (1997) is MAINLY centered around that couple, to the point that it omits several crucial events that happened during the sinking, like the preparations on the Caprathia, and the whole Californian matter.
2. Jack and Rose were ENTIRELY fictional, and Jack only had his appearance and staying in Third class based on real Titanic passenger John "Jack" Thayer.
And the real J. Dawson of the Titanic, whose grave was found after Titanic (1997) was released, is a certain Joseph Dawson, an irishman, 30-something years old, and was a trimmer. And trimmers are crew members.
