Gizmondo

The handheld gameing war may be seen to be between Sony and Nintendo, but there is a third contestant:
www.gizmondo.com

It has many things against it; Most expensive, Lack of support, No brand-name to sale it.
But these are just because its a smaller company, and I think this system deserves a fighting chance.

While Sony talks about "movies and multimedia", and Nintendo talks against it, this thing is actualy doing it.
No re-buying your movies in a special disc format, just download from your pc, as it plays Avis.
Same goes for MP3s, Mpegs whatever.

While Nintendo has a short-range chat program built in, this thing has full SMS/MMS services.
With its built in digital camera you can send pictures instantly to other MMS devices.

AS for games, its support is lack-luster, but existant.
Microsoft are supporting it, and first party games look like they are taking Nintendos "Make something as unique as possible" techique.

Eg,

Quote:
For instance, the technology blurs the line between physical and virtual for Gizmondo's debut title, Colors. In Colors, you and your friends can form gangs to wage war for control of the streets. However, because the game utilises GPS technology, the virtual rumbles can take place on the streets
of the very village, town or city in which you live. When you've kicked sufficient butt, you and your mates can go elsewhere to challenge Colors gangs in another part of town or even in an entirely different city.
The idea of GPS games I think is very interesting indeed.

So for those of you undecided as to if you need one of these new consoles or not, the Gizmondo is another choice.
Especialy if you value multimedia abilitys.

The site is rather nice too, if a bit gimicky.

Its a phone too? Christ... They should have left it as a gaming device... I see a repetition of the failed N-Gage here...

Its not a phone, the Sim card is for sending text/mms.
You use your existing phones sim if you wish, the system is sold without one.

And as for "just a gameing device"...why does Sony get away with boasting about movies and such then?
This company is already doing it!

Besides, unlike the Ngage witch had a hidious design for both gameing and phonecalls, this thing is comfortable to hold.

Seems like an interesting device. Pitty it's probably gonna fail, as small companies rarely get attention in the consoles market.

Exactly why im trying to attract attention to it.

Even without wide support, the potential for homebrew/downloadables is quite big.
So I think it could be a success even with a small market share.

By the looks of it they know how to get industary deals at least, as they are showcaseing "Collatral" as their movie-download example.
