First CPU, Then GPU, now PPU

A techy thread this one

Anyone else heard of this:
http://www.ageia.com/

Company makeing "physics cards".
Much in the same way we have graphics cards today, they are hopeing to make physic-accelerator cards to improve physics in games.

While the idea of something else to upgrade is annoying, personaly I cant wait.

I'd much rather have games acting real, rather then mearly looking real.

Anyone else got any views on this?

they actually can now, but i think this card just sort of relieves the cpu from having to do all the work.

A good example, Half Life 2, i did find some of the reactions extremely realistic.

Yes, HL2 was very good.
But still, it only had a handfull of objects at a time.

If a PPU does what they claim it can (40,000 object collisions simultaniously)...that would let you say....have every brick in a wall have real pysics

Its a bit stupid in games at the moment really.
They boast about how "realistic" their graphics are, but then you can shoot a rocket launcher at something and a few seconds later it dosnt have a scratch on it

Sounds nifty. Maybe after they do that, they'll be able to combine the GPU/PPU to one card.

Sounds cool, especially when you think of that brick wall example. I think it'll be a long time before any games make use of this fully though.

Not sure.
I think physics has to potential to become much bigger and more important then graphics cards.
Allthough the two are strongly related.
