In two years a video site with at least as good quality for sure will exist.

And as I first thought, the idea seemed to come too early.

Stage6 was quite nice, I enjoyed the quality.

I think YouTube is experimenting with higher quality video.

What's happening to Joost these days?

Joost is streaming various things still.
Their technology is good, and they dont have the bandwidth troubles of Stage6. (its p2p based)_
But its not as easy to upload/maintain a channel yourself.

And YouTube's higher quality videos are at best just going to be flash8 at nicer res.

My biggest crit with all the flash based sites is they force you to transcode.
Even if you have the ability to upload in X format they use, they will still convert it again.

Stage6 let you upload the divx6 dirrectly, and its hosted online without changes.
So apart from being a better codec, and unlimited in size, Stage6's method was better too.
All flash based sites at the very least should let you upload in flash movie format (flv), which they can put online directly.

Really Stage6 was one of a kind.

Ah yes, I just heard. It's horrible. Stage6 was indeed one of the most decent websites when it comes to the quality of its streamed content.

I will certainly miss it. Goddamnit. <

The internet is a truely wonderfull thing.
I was wrong..there is alternatives to Stage6, and Stage6's disasperence is createing an impact already.

For instance;

http://sff.blip.tv/

Supports both flash AND divx files!
I'll be continueing my sci-fi channel over there.

But theres also, say;

www.sumo.tv

Which says they will support Divx soon.
(allthough that site I'm put off by the fact they charge for public domain stuff. Micropayments is something I support, but not for stuff thats free)

So maybe stage6 closing down will actually turn out to be a good thing. Like the hydra monster.

Stage9 - Disney's web content studio

"With a web site and press release that push hard to position the company as revolutionary, Disney today announced the launch of Stage 9 Digital Media. They claim to have 20 web series in various stages of development, ranging from comedy to science fiction."

No upload function I think, but still cool. (actually, even better than stage6 in a way)

Interesting.
Whats with these names anyway?

Stage6, Stage9, and also the company that does Sanctuary is called "Stage3 media".

Seriously...WTF?
===
Also, I dought its better then Stage6.
No uploads and, given the fact its disney, one of the big 7, its unlikely to be accessible outside the US.

He calls the show "sit-comy" but funny, and he faults Disney for a cardinal internet sin: not allowing users to embed the show in their own sites.
who really cares about that?
