Its-a-Mario Kart DS thread

Just got the game
In a word, its orgasmicafrelllatasicagorical!

Handles well, very smooth (60fps), lots of options tracks and characters...custom logos on your karts.....all the best features of all the previous games plus a load more

I just briefly played though the first 50cc courses, and then had a go with single-card link up. (took about 4 mins to download onto my friends DS, but after that loading between different tracks for him was just 2 or 3 seconds).

I haven't yet got my WiFi network set up here, maybe sometime next week, I'll put my Friend Code here when I have it:

408082-672531

Feel free to register me to play with you for future matches

I might just steal some bandwidth from the cloud, as they are all Nintendo-compatible locations.

Around/after christmas I'm getting this game, we should start a multiplayer clan thing on it or something, or at least have a tournament like we planned to do in that multiplayer thread but never got round to. How do the custom logos work? You draw them right? Different colours?

Yup, you draw them on a grid with different colours then they appear on your kart during races

Cool, can you select where they appear or is there a specific place on each cart?

I'm going to order it from to buy it tomorrow. Prepare to pwn me DF.

I've actually never owned a Mario kart game before, but MK64 sure as hell was fun. Even though I played it all the time for a month in the hospital.

Hey DF, you probably haven't because you don't have your WiFi Network setup but have you tried any DS Tunnelling software? Also will the DS work with any standard 802.11 Wireless Router?

The list of Nintendo router combatibility is here:
http://www.nintendowifi.com/customer...rtedRouters.do

As for tunneling software for lan games...I dont think there is yet
Was a closed Beta version someone on the www.dsdev.org forum made, dont think its going to go public for a few weeks at least though.

Specific place unfortunately.
Its not as customisable as F-Zero:GC, which is a shame.

Yay! Mario Kart ownz I got it yesterday and played for a bit...

Got onto the online service and after a few issues managed to match up against 1 opponent. There seems to bit a bit of a problem with finding enough players at the moment (and my router keeps booting me off) So in the aim of getting more opponents here is my Nintendo ID:

326477 552599

I look forward to kicking your asses

By the way I am also importing Animal Crossing which should be here around December 20th so I'll be wanting more friends then too

As for DS tunnelling I'm sure that there's a very advanced project going on there so I look forward to a few online battles too

I'm gonna get animal crossing as well, so at lunch times in college I'm gonna go to the Chicago Rock cafe near college because they have a Nintendo compatible hotspot, I dunno why the college doesn't have WiFi, but then again it would be a bitch to change all the computers to wireless. This is gonna be awesome.

Do you know if it's plug in and play or does it require software to be installed, because if it doesn't then i won't need to leave college to play online.

Probably needs software.
Its made so you can assign it to *only* work with certain DS's (eg, in case you didnt want your nabour leaching off you).

Dunno if the software makes it work, or if its just for that feature though.

I was thinking about getting this for my little brother for the upcoming holidays, and now that I've played it myself I definitely am.

You can play online with the DS? That's cool! How does it work?

Btw, I played Mario Kart Double Dash with a couple of guys yesterday. I must say that it is definitely the most boring Mario Kart game I've played.

You get near a wireless internet connection. You log on. And then you play.

Simple as that.

To use the DS online you can do two things;
1) Goto a compatible Nintendo hotspot. There's 30,000 in Europe.
Basically you just go to one of them, and play the game...no setting up at all really. (except getting your unique id)

In the UK any "cloud" hot spot works. (see link above).
In the US almost any MacDonald's works.
Dunno about the rest of Europe, but they will have search-sites up soon.

2) At home you can do it with a compatible wireless router (not all are compatible). Or you can do it with a little Nintendo Wi-Fi USB thingy that goes into your PC.

Basically, its pretty simple, as long as you got the right stuff

As for Double Dash, theres only two things that makes that game worth playing:
1. The Shine battle mode.
2. "Baby Park" course.

MK DS on the other hand....everything...is worth playing.

I played it through two long car rides today. The difference between an A and a D is shockingly small in grand prix mode. O_o I may get a chance to play online soon, I dunno.
