Actualy, Spores procedral idology results in far more original games with a lower budget
And personaly, I call that very next gen.

It is a bussword, that often means "better graphics for consoles", but it has a legitmate use imo.
Next gen = phase change in the way things are done, imo.

I think with Spore Will Wright is really showcaseing the power of procedral technology in games. (as well as user-created stuff).

Spore's engine is apperently very scaleable too. He quoted it could easily be scaled to work on the Nintendo DS, or made better quality dynamicaly as PC's improve.

Snake is going to seem kinda, out of place... Unless of course, there will be other third-party characters joining the brawl too , which seems highly likely.

Yes, G4TV officially sucks balls. When they aren't trying to advertise their *new set* updated superaction shows (which is about every 5 minutes), they have lame hosts who try to act cool and come off as total arses. The coverage last year was so much better, imo, cause they actually talked about, you know, games and such. This year, they just play into the hype of the ads and such.

Given what Nintendo said, it seems like they are in discusions for others indeed.

I wouldnt be supprised if this "opens up" the game a bit.
I mean...lots of developers might think
"hay! I love that game...I didnt know they let third party game charecters be in it..."
Heck, its free advertising for them.

As for "fitting in" your right, theres problems style wise.
But it didnt look too bad in the trailer.

It seems they are makeing all the other characters a bit more real/detailed anyway.

By adding Pit they seem to be getting ideas from rumors/pranks about the last game. Pit was rumored to be in there, as were Sonic and Tails (Knuckles would be great too). Who else would be good in SSBB?

Well, they are hinting towards sonic. maybe.

http://www.cubed3.com/news/5174/

Quote:
but obviously a lot of people have been interested in the introduction of other characters in the Smash Bros. games, and Sonic has been brought up many, many times. Part of it is you have to have someone you can trust to take care of your character and do your character good, so we're looking at various possibilities. There are probably possibilities for other third-party characters as well, and it may be that even now there are corporate discussions going on at a high level about what characters to include, but maybe we'll talk to you about that a little bit later.

At least, that pretty much says they are trying to get other 3rd party charecters into it.

===========

As for who else.

Well, Id love there to be someone mind-blowingly unexpected, and kept as a secret charecter.
Dosnt mater who

Heck, dosnt even have to be a game charecter tv..film, or real life

(come on Shigeru, Reggie, et all..put yourselfs in ;p)

My interest is piqued by the virtual console, especially this Wii controller (which I hadn't previously seen before). This must be an add-on/accessory (DF?) to be purchased later? There is a video displaying Sonic, Mario 64 etc. on IGN. Seems to be very similar to the GBA emulator pack which you could put on the gamecube (which I have), in the sense that you can adjust the screen, etc.

I'm just wondering about prices. I mean, I have most of the old Nintendo/Sega/N64 games I want, I don't know how much I'd use the service...except maybe to get Kirby 64 and Glover.

BTW - without harddrive, how is the Wii going to store these games that you purchase from the online store? I don't think the flash memory would be able to hold all that much?

The flash memory is
512MB, which isnt much, but, in terms of games is actualy shitloads.
Pre-CD games took up very little space.

Mario 64 = 8MB
Ocarina of time = 32MB
Most Megadrive/Snes games = 4MB
ect

Also, more importantly, the Wii has SD Card slots built in, and a USB slot.
So its very easy to add space too.

I am not sure what one you mean.
The main system comes for sure with the main "pointer" and the nun-chuck bit.

Theres a possibility that this controller will come with it too for retro-game use;

Nintendo havnt made up their mind yet.

Theres also the light gun, which will almost certainly be sold seperately.

The wii controller just slots in the front of it, so it should be fairly cheap.

Also, remember, the Wii has Gamecube pad holes in a flap, so you can just use gamecube controllers for stuff. (which suit most N64 titles)

I think it probably will at some stage.

Nextgen games are costing absolute shitloads to make, they will want to reclame their lose's every way they can.
Look at Resident Evil 4...regardless of high sales on the cube it was still ported to the PS2....and now its comeing out on the PC

So, MGS4 for PC ? give it 2 years maybe

As for those graphics, they are nice.
BUT

Is it me or does every next gen game have hediously strong amounts of Bloom Blur?
I think thats really the only difference

Exactly.
I think it was a bit of a step backwards for microsoft to use memory cards still

Both Sony and Nintendo have dumped them in favor of generic things.
(or at least, more generic)

If you don't know why something happened, it happened becouse of money. If a console had a big HDD they couldn't sell you any memory cards and make money on it. And with those memmory cards, you need to buy them if you wan't to play more games etc. It's clearly a marketing thing.

I always felt it was a shame that the nunchuck has a cable instead of being bluetooth as well.... I hope the batteries are rechargable - I hate having to find batteries!

Apperently Nintendo was concerned about bandwidth which is why the nunchuck wasnt bluetooth. (4 players, each one triangulateing radio waves, and then you might have 2 wii's in range of eachother...quickly multiplys up).

Not at all
Nintendo is using SD Cards...which they earn absolutely nothing from.

Sony is using SD, CF and Memory Sticks...and they make money only on the memory sticks.

Microsoft is the only one stuck using their own expensive memory cards...but then, they introduced the hard drive so you dont need memory cards on thier format.
====

Nintendo has used a small flash drive simply because Flash drives fit their design better;

a) Smaller
b) Silent
c) Use's a tiny amount of power.

When left on standby, the Wii will use just the power of a small lightbulb. Even when downloading overnight.

The same cant be said for non-solid state devices.

Magnetic Harddrives have big downsides.
In 10 years time I wouldnt be supprised if everyone had switched to using solid state technology.

I strongly agree, magnetic drives are loud, and have a bigger possibility of breaking, and of course are large, not very handy. They have mechanic parts that simply brake after some time.

I think this E3 has been amazing.

Metal Gear Solid 4, especially the long trailer, was fantastic. It really shows how video games can have different kinds of characters. And how the main character doesn't have to be total fag (Tidus and Raiden) and how fags can turn unfaggy (New Raiden). I just fucking hope we don't have to suffer Rose again... Yuck. It was actually her that hurt Raiden's character, not him.

Super Mario Galaxies look insanely cool. I truly believe this can be THE killer app for Wii. And along with Red Steel (which I think WILL end up being perfect, unlike how IGN describes it) and Metroid Prime 3, the Wii will truly stand a great chance. IF! And this, I am freaking serious about, they release before Sony. They ab-so-lute-ly HAVE to release before Sony. Sony won two generations of consoles because they got there on the right time. And Nintendo certainly got the bigger piece of the pie on the handheld market because of good release time (along with other things).

And Zelda. Zelda, Zelda, Zelda. Zelda is gonna be probably(likely, certainly doubtlessly) be the ├╝ber all devouring genocide app.

I still havn't seen neither Dragon Age nor Mass Effect. You dissapoint me Bioware. You dissapoint me GREATLY!

And Bethesda. Where is Fallout 3? *sheesh*.

Halo 3. I knew it was coming. It looks nice. Nothing else (very sadly)...

Where is the Bioshock trailer?

And finally Sony. Get. Your. Asses. Together. That goes for Namco aswell. Proof (check both vidoes): http://media.ps3.ign.com/media/748/748466/vids_1.html

Red Steel seems to have mostly fixable issues.
The only real disapointment is it hasnt got "truely free" sword movements.
I guess thats down to the fact game engines are designed for preset animations at the moment.
Quite tricky to have proper freeform arm movements, and then to sycn enemy fighting to those arm movements.

Still, Nintendos baseball demo apperently had perfectly sycned bat movements.

Agreed about Mario Galaxy, certainly looks a killer app.
Much moreso then I expected. I love the spherical gravity to everything.

I agree though, this E3 has been fantastic for gamers.

A few downers, but almost all positive.

Compareing Sony's speach to Nintendos really sums up the companys well.

Sony's was a rather blah yawn-fest.

And Nintendo opened with Miyamoto conducting a virtual orcasture with a
Wii-mote playing the Zelda tune. Nintendo just seem to have more "fun" with their buisness
