Wow, I hope they'll put more games for free that way, like Rayman 1 etc.

Well I already have that game, but what's Far Cry?
Seems like it's something I should know about...
Also, how can they legally release these games for free?
Surely it's not economical.

And what should tehy do if they don't want to keep selling them? At least this way, by releasingthem with advertising, theese games can be usefull to them somehow. The gaming industry moves so fast that the average user doesen't want games from a few years back.

I think it's actually a very smart, economically speaking, move.

Indeed.

Technicaly speaking this is "adware", so its worth being carefull/checking it isnt doing anything dodgy.

Having got SoT, and not interesting in the others (RR is funny, but pathicaly dull if not played on a Wii), I havnt installed myself so I dont know what form the advertising takes.

adware!

I wouldn't go for it. If this appears to be successful you will see it more often.

Free semi-old games released with adverts? What would be so bad about that?

It wouldnt effect my purchase's much, as I always buy any game I like new, but lots of people might try games they wouldnt have tried before.

Also, not all ad-ware is "bad", it depends how its done.

POP is one of the games which will give u a headache anyway ... now with an AD in the corner, ledges and things like that will be even harder to spot

If it's successful ads for new games will come closer and closer.
They will first let you get used to it in gratis games.

Just look at the number of people that think ads make games more realistic

they are as annoying as they are in real life ... seriously I never understood how low on IQ can someone be in order to actually get influenced by ads and TV commercials ... I mean:

T.V. : THE NEW SUPER-CLEANER X2000 WILL CLEAN YOUR HOUSE IN THE BLINK OF AN EYE !!!
MORON : Oh MY GOSHHH !!! I-HAVE-TO-BUY-THAT-THING !!! N-O-W !!!

how stupid can people get ???

Adverts in some games ARE realistic.

If you are simulating something from real life that has adverts (say, Times Square, or a racecar, or a football shirt), then it is, by deffinition, more realistic to have adverts.

The fault, imo, is more automaticaly thinking realism itself is a good thing...

Stupid. Very Stupid.
But not quite as stupid as it seems.
It only takes 1 idiot in every 10,000 in order to make more adverts like that profitable.
Cable-network add space is really cheap, especialy in the US.

Its a bit like Spam really.

Quote:

They will first let you get used to it in gratis games.
Then we wont buy those games, or will pay a heck of a lot less for them.

I dont see a scenero where publishers will actualy make a profit from putting adverts in new commercial games.
Sure, they might think (Normal Cost Of Game x Buyers) + (Advertising value of one person x buyers) = $$$$

But all they will actualy be doing is devalueing the gameing expirence, making people want to pay less.
(Normal Cost Of Game x (Buyers-Those put off by adverts)) + (Advertising value of one person x buyers) = $$$$

So even if they try it, it wont last long.

We are worth much more in direct payment then we are in adverts.
It wouldnt take much of a percentage of players put off from paying the full price to completely overwealm the amount generated by advertising.

Of course though, different rules will apply to MMO's and other online subscription stuff.
