Sure, Firefox may win in sheer number of add-ons, but many of the customizations you'd want to download for Firefox are already a part of Internet Explorer 8 – right out of the box.

Internet Explorer 8 is more compatible with more sites on the Internet than any other browser.
Of course, when you outright block Firefox from opening the Microsoft website, that makes IE more compatible! ......

That shit is bananas. IE makes my balls hurt.

Although I have to say, I'm disappointed in FF3, mostly because it has an assload of memory leaks, takes forever to load, and still has a lot of bugs. Much "heavier" than its predecessors.

Safari and Opera clearly dont exist as far as Microsoft is concerned.

btw. Opera Unite (10) = fantastic.
Been swapping files today on it, its just very practical.

Developer Tools: Of course Internet Explorer 8 wins this one. There's no need to install tools separately, and it offers better features like JavaScript profiling.

DocX is one of mankinds most evil inventions.
I hate it when someone sends me a file in that format.

Microsofts best work is
a) In the past
b) Fringe developements by smaller divisions (Photosynth and Natal both imprress me a lot more then any of their mainstream software)

Regardless of the default file format, Office 2007 is pretty cool though.

Obviously IE is the most compatible browser. Since most people use that so all sites are designed to primarily work for IE.

And wtf guys, have anyone of you actually used IE8 which you criticize? Obviously they don't state complete lies, or only sparsely. On the other hand they are biased.

One lie I noticed is that they say fx. doesn't have phising protection etc.. But it does afaik.

I love Office 2007, except the retarded "ribbon," which I find to be cumbersome, even if I've gotten used to it, having written two theses and countless research papers on it.

I like the ribbon. At first I hated it, because I was used to the old interface, but come to think of it it's easier to find features with the ribbon. I mean, there's a lot of stuff that I just didn't know how to do in Word 2003, because it was hidden in obscure submenus. With the ribbon it seems everything is organized in a way that makes sense.

I agree that the file format is very annoying, but again the software is great.

They come as close to lieing as its possible too.
And almost all of them are lies of omission.

eg. Boasting about CS2.1 support when everyone else is upto CSS3.

Specificaly claiming they have the most support for it, when thats only because they submitted a lot of IE-specific quirks into the standard themselfs. (ie, rather then match the standard, they made the standard match them).

Claiming IE8 supports standards better then the other browsers is really a pretty blatent lie, all-in-all.
It dosnt support SVG, for example, at all. (only browser now not too. Opera and Firefox can play -videos- in SVG!).

It also does absolutely shitly at the AcidTest3;

http://acid3.acidtests.org/

Firefox, Chrome and Opera all now pass it 100%.
(its a very hard test, to be fair, but IE does -awfull-)

IE8 does at least pass the AcidTest2....but like CSS2, thats yesterdays standards.

Also they lie that chrome is customisable...it isnt :P

They're just at the point of scraping the bottom of the barrel to make sure that they aren't lost with everyone using other browsers.
It's pitiful what they're doing!

I use this a lot in FF3 actually, dragging artwork into iTunes for example works great. You can also drag images into folders / desktop. Is it specific programs where this doesn't work?

And the answer to the title question;

VERY

Microsoft is now using guilt to get you to download IE8.

Check out the adverts on the right and up.

Yes, that comment from microsoft gave me a snigger.
Debuging IE...the browser that needs it most...is a right pain in the neck.
Firebug, Opera's Developer Tools and Chrome are much better.

Firebug's the most mature tool out of them by far, but everyone else is putting in a decent effort. (Opera's tools would probably be equal if it wasnt so darn slow I mean, really slow).

IE only comes up with developer tools once everyone else kicks their arse's showing how its done. Microsoft is such a re-active company these days.

Probably a machine specific problem.
Opera is supposed to do the exact same thing, but it hasnt worked for me in ages.

Oh fuck that's so disgusting. Just when I start to think "maybe they're not really that evil" they go and do this.

I mirrored it, it should be cherished forever.
