Water Brain - That was disturbing. Which is always good, of course. Too bad it's banned in China, I think this short movie really portrays how it's like to be a kid in modern-day China - prettty horrible.

Star Trek: Hidden Frontier
Reviewed By Darkflame(Type - Webseries, CreatedBy - Rob Caves )

Star Trek Hidden Frontier is the longest running star trek fanfilm, and probably the longest running fan series of any genre.
While its very easy to dismiss these things, its worth baring in mind just how ahead of their times they were. Completely independent, fully amateur actors, production and effects, and produced almost completely with blue screens, this show lasted 7 seasons with over 50 episodes.
Naturally as you'd expect the quality of the early episodes is very poor, both production wise as well as story and acting wise. However, the show really does have massive noticeable improvement over its run, you can really see the shows team getting more skillfull.

Storywise the show ties in to the star trek mythology after the last of the nextgen films, but before the reboot. Not that its that important to know, but it does help if you understand some of the star trek mythologies upto that point.
Where it gets interesting is, they have managed to produce a much more consistent and far-reaching storylines then the professional star trek shows. I mean, not only do they have a constant ongoing storyline, but there's actual character development too. (gosh!).
They also seem much more willing to play with sci-fi ideas. Perhaps because they know they cant make stuff look complete realistic, they don't restrict themselves to thinking they have too and instead are much more playfull with their concepts.

Despite all this its really is hard to recommend the early seasons.
As a curiosity its perhaps nice to see a few...to see a good example of early internet shows...but beyond that I can only recommend the later seasons.
Near the end it does get surprisingly epic, and eventually spun of into two other shows (Star Trek: The Helena Chronicles and Star Trek : Odyssey), both of which are superior.

Hidden Frontier can be watched, along with the spin-offs here;

Venus Rises (sci-fi) -
http://www.venusrises.com/

Id like to review this, but I cant, because all they have is one pathetically short and a message saying more is coming soon, but there isnt
Theres links to 3 parts, but given how short epp1 is, its really daft to have a delay between them.

Horrible Turn
Reviewed By Darkflame(Type - Webshort, CreatedBy -Chance McClain )

Horrible Turn is a fan made, unofficial, prequel to Dr Horrible.Its about 1 hour in length, and has quite staggeringly good production values.
It seems justas well filmed, with just as good sets as Whedons original work.

It concerns how both Hammer and Dr Horrible got started, and while it certainly follows the mold of Sing-along-blog, it takes its own path and dosnt reuse any of the songs or music.
The story is pretty strong, and adds quite well to the characters depths (or in some case's lack thereof). Its funny in places, and the music is well done...allthough most arnt as catch as its inspiration.Direction is good, but not as "sharp" or too the point as Whedons. Perhaps cutting it down by 15 minutes and trying to make the ending have a little more impact would have helped.
So, while not being as funny, poingent or as catchy as Dr Horrible, horrible turn still raise's the bar for amateur/fan productions online. It demonstrates nicely just how blurred the line is getting when this sort of quality can be made with fresh talent indirectly of any studio or network.
You can watch it freely, online here;

riese - not giving this a proper review yet, as its too early to judge, but its worth checking out. Seems like a fair amount of effort went into it, and its world seems interesting.
-

I also checked out the other stuff at http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/
Lots of good stuff. I think Nastigalia Chick is actually funnier.

The Spoony One is also great, he appears on TGWTG but he also has his own website at www.spoonyexperiment.com. He reviews old movies & games and also gives his comments on newer stuff in Vlogs which are usually not that funny and a bit dragged out. But you should check this out.

Star Trek Phase2: Blood and Fire parts1/2 -

Wowsa, that was actually quite good, especially the second part. Definitely the most skilled fan-film markers. Production quality good, story well told, acting mostly pretty good, and effects are wonderfull (yet also fitting the old style). The last effects were particularly pretty. I also notice these feel more like films then episodes. In terms of storytelling these guys actualy do a far better job then the official star trek mostly did.

I'll check it out. I saw the first, but didnt think too much of it. If it gets better then I'll give it another go.
The Guilds recent 3rd season was a lot better too.
Guess everyone learns as they go.

I'm still on the look out for more online shows. Got plenty of comady ones, but need a bit more drama.
I found this one recently however;
http://afterjudgment.com/
Havnt given it a go yet.
(partly because I didnt know if I should start with after-judgement or before-judgement :P)

I'll try watching The Guild next.

In Legend of Neil season 2 be sure to get at least as far as episode 3 (the musical), it's LOL.

Musicals FTW :P

The guild isn't tremendously funny, but it picks up a lot in its last season.

Getting quite a nice list of online tv now

Btw, if you don't already know about it - There Will Be Brawl is pretty rad. It's a film noir series starring Luigi and co-starring everyone else who appeared on Super Smash Bros. I think it's mostly a Watchmen parody.

Last episode (episode 10) will come out in a few days.

Legend of Niel - Pretty funny, loved the musical eppisode.

I started to tidy this thread up btw.
So if you see a review/snippet of yours missing, its probably because I've moved it to the first post.
(I wont remove anything that's part of a discussion...just trying to have a nice list of reviews/recommendations at the first post)

That was pretty cool and surprisingly confusing. Still not sure I 100% got the plot.
Rather good acting by Luigi there, and "The Cannibal" was pretty darn creepy despite being very low budget.

Also, Id think its a "There Will be Blood" parody? (havnt seen that film, but given the name).

Don't know about that movie.
The last episode is already released here. I watched it all, but in retrospect I didn't like it. I appreciate the effort they put into it, but it just didn't turn out very good.

By the way, about Neil's Legend musical episode, they totally stole the idea for the bit with the fairy-due from Ferrets.

Well, I'm not sure it fitted together or not at the end.
I was expecting a shape shifter character of somesort (playing the various characters off eachother, and also being Zelda at the end of the penultimate episode).

Or maybe even MewTwo, having faked his own death in order to get the others to destroy eachother before coming back to claim victory.

I think either of those would have worked better.
As it stands now it just seems a little overly complex and I contrived. I mean;
Spoiler:

So MewTwo trains too kids from earthbound, gets killed by Kirby, Kirby then trains the kids to be killers, then Gannon takes the kids not realizing they were trained by Kirby and he plans to use them for..umm..something..but he cant controll them..no wait.
When did Kirby get out? The Kids kill MewTwo..(wait why?)...no wait...Kirby Trains the kids -before- getting arrested, then MewTwo takes them in for their physic powers, then Gannon then...arg.
Its just all so messy and poorly explained.
Its kinda like they were going for something else then changed it at the last minute because someone guessed the resolution halfway and they wanted it to be a surprise still.

I still think it was quite a well made production and the charecters were pretty good.
They just had to work the plot out better.
