Besides what you guys have been saying (Rex's post was hilarious) I think another factor that could ruin a new LBA, reboot or not, it's the budget.

Back then in 1997, LBA 2 had a HUGE budget for the time (1.5 Million dollars, if I recall correctly) but nowadays you wouldn't even start modelling the first island with that amount.

Sure, LBA is not like a GTA game, so it doesn't need that much money but I'm pretty sure a proper, beautifully realized modern LBA game would still need a very beefy check of a couple (probably tens of) million dollars.

Also: No Phil Vachey, more violence than needed to make it look "cool", total radical re-design of Twinsen and many of the important folks.

On the voice matter, I'm not very optimistic about retaining the originals. Most of the LBA2's voices are probably too old/retired to even bother with a potential sequel that's not even in the making. And LBA already had a huge voice-acting shift from Relentless to Twinsen's Odyssey.

Btw, hi guys.

Yeah... ofcourse the original voice cast could not be used, otherwise Twinsen will sound like grandpa.

Every day brings more and more arrests, and the people slowly begin to lose hope. In an effort to keep their spirits up, the people sometimes evoke an ancient legend along with the name of a goddess, Sendell. The mentioning of the legend or Sendell has since been forbidden by Dr. FunFrock. Meanwhile... a young quetch named Twinsen has been having strange dreams...

Btw, hi guys.
Maybe not in english, but in French they are the same, and much better than the English ones (or maybe I'm just used to it).

Also hi

Depends on style - I think most games cost that much because they are going ultra-realistic with huge amounts of detail.
A stylized game should be a lot cheaper asset wise. Still probably cost more, but not that much more.

I don't see why not.....how long has Nancy Cartwright voiced Bart Simpson now?
Voice actors can go on and on and on....

There should be someone on the box art - big guy with gun. That person should not be in the game.

What would ruin LBA for you?

What addition or removal in the remake would make you go "that's it, they've ruined LBA for me"?

For me it would be removing the sidestories, or some of the wacky npcs that are scattered around twinsun. Another thing would be if they changed how the magic ball is used. A horror scenario for me would be a "magic ball mode" where the camera uses a 3rd person angle for throwing it.

On another note, I think they should ADD more npcs and sidestories.

Also I would hate it if they added islands.

I second that. LBAs have got few sidestories for being sandbox games.

Those threads should be merged

I'd like to see a remake. Not having it is what's ruining it for me. :P

Anything that would really ruin LBA for me;
  • If it became 1stperson style
  • If the inventory was replaced such that you cannot keep items with you anymore
  • If there were no vehicles to drive in anywhere
  • If you'd be stuck to the same outfit during the entire game
  • If there were no way to evade enemies that you may encounter (like cheats, player agility or super weapons)
(Because at some point you may want to play the game without fighting for some reason)
  • If we couldn't explore all of the islands/planets or all areas on them
  • If the storyline were strictly linear and no sidepaths could be followed storywise
  • If the character couldn't grow in any kind of skill like magic level
  • If there were no puzzles required to complete to be able to progress in the story
  • If powerups weren't available for free anymore
  • ...and more below

Words come in all sizes. But even if they fit you,
they might not come at appropriate times.

How to ruin the game? FunFrock and Twinsen have a dance battle to the death in tutu's and then we have a childhood ruined moment.

More stuff that would ruin LBA:
  • If there wasn't any kind of antagonist anymore like FunFrock or the Emperor that would set the goal for the player
  • If the amount of interactivity available in the game would decrease from the existing games
  • If the dialogues became less dynamic than already
  • If there were less weapons, weapon attack styles, weapon damage types or weapon powerlevels
  • If it wasn't possible to ever combine inventory objects manually or automatically like with the pisto-laser
  • If the mysterious background of FunFrock and his clone arsenal, or how magic works, was revealed (similar to the Force in Star Wars I, II & III)
  • If the game would become less mature (regardless of cartoony nature)
  • If there were less humour in the game
  • ...and possibly more

*Edit:
I'm assuming "LBA" here means the whole existing franchise, not the first game/remake.
