Farscape Final :(

At 6:45 today GMT, BBC2, the Final eppisode of Farscape series 4 will be showen

This is possibly the last ever filmed episode of Farscape.

Dispite being the channels 2nd most watched program, the Sci-Fi channel decided to drop the series, after they run into money problems.
www.farscape.com has details

And the campagn to save farscape is here:
www.savefarscape.com

Allthough there isnt much hope for Sci-Fi reversing their discision, the campagn has been getting other companys interested in buying the series.
BBC is rumoured to be looking into it,but other channels are put off because Sci-Fi refuses to sale the repeat rights.

If you want to help Farscape, the best thing you can do is watch it.
Especialy if you, or someone you know has one of those boxs that moniters watch you watch.
If you got one ogf those boxs your worth 10,000 people! Make a difference!!

For those that dont know, or havnt seen Farscape, I can not recomend it enough.
There is a plot summery at the bottom of the page here:
http://www.watchfarscape.com/primer.php

Squessing 4 seasons into a paragraph or too is hard though

BBC will probably show repeats after series 4 is over.

Farscape is by far the more dareing and oringinal Sci-Fi on TV, it avoids all the normal Sci-Fi cliches, and gets better and better the more you watch it.
Dont let it die!

The picture below is from the eppisode "Unrealized Reality".
Possible the best eppisode of any sci-fi ever.
Its the bit quoted in my sig.
The shear brillence of the eppisode cant be appreicated unless you saw quite a few other eppisodes...farscapes plot is quite detailed

Farscape - at first I must confess I hated it, only got into it in the second series.

Later I really grew to respect the extent of imagination - I'd peg the animated ep as a major example of this.

Same situation as Buffy - massive in the UK, but murdered in the U.S.

I never really saw it, but I think it stole the Sliders concept. (if I'm not mistaken)

Not really. There are wormholes - here endeth the similarity.

Farscape subscribes to the more traditional 'Wormholes through time and space' concept, as opposed to the Sliders 'Many worlds' concept.

Farscape dosnt steal anything, its oringinal.
Stargate is much more of a Sliders like program then Farscape.

Farscape is about charecters, species, races, concepts and ideas.
Its not about a fixed set of rules.
Examples of this:

*Normal Sci-Fis have the end of the eppisode the same as the beging.
Whatever happens during the eppisode, the crew are all back to square one at the end.
Farscapes eppisodes are continuous, a fractualar story. Charecters die, new ones come and go, things change

*Charecters are not black and white.
This is no "bad guy" as such, everyone does stuff for a reason.
It certainly isnt a good VS evil as it is in Startrek or most sci fis.

*Living spaceships have been done before, yes, but have you ever seen any other series where the main ship gives Birth?
And I mean that in the literal way.

*The cartoon eppisode....what other sci-fi would dare?

*In one eppisode the main charecter gets "doubled" (like cloned, only they are both the same, there isnt an "original" anymore)
This has been done lots and lots.
But in EVERY other sci fi series the clone gets killed off in the same eppisode.
Not Farscape, farscape kept them both alive for many eppisodes.
This was brillent...because for once YOU DIDNT KNOW WHICH ONE WOULD DIE OR WHEN.
Please, let the brillence of this set in.

When you watch Startrek, you know Picard will survive.
But with this, they could die at any time.

*No happy crew, they all are working for there own ends and reasons. Charecters change and develop, like most series, but in farscape they are unpredictable.

*Humour.
Farscape is funny.
"Wont be fooled again", is a classic example.
With the exception of sci-fis made to be funny (Futurama,Red Dwalf), Farscape is the funniest series.

*Set in the present day.
And I mean really present, this very year.
In season 4 farscape became an "alternate universe" program.
That is, one that is set in an alternate version of the present.

Up and till then, Farscape could have been real.
Like Stargate.
But recently they went back to earth, and wormholes/aliens ect was made public knowledge.
Would any other series do this? hell no, they would try to fit it into reality in some stupid way. They would make it all a cover up or something.

*Good, Real, clever science fiction.
No technobale here, no stupid explanations, just down right cool ideas.
Take the eppisode were they are strunk, two of the charecters actualy have a conversation saying how scienficaly impossible it would be to be strunk........while they were strunk!!

Would any over series do this? No.
Sam, LaForge,...whoever, they would attempt to give some psudo science explanation.

Yet they still have extreamly cool ideas.

*Good Non-human aliens.

Ok, so most of the main crew are humanoid (except Pilot, and Moya, the spaceship).
But the other aliens are always wonderfully, unique, creations.
These arnt just humans with some dumb make up!

I dont have time now, but I can list many more reasons
Meanwhile this site has a few cool audio clips of Farscape and other shows:

If you like scifi, you just got to like Farscape, even without liking scifi

And yes, it's dreadful that this series is over, especially if you know that complete fuckups like Enterprice still are being made

I just hope they still can continue with it

DF, you argue really well

Yeah, the main thing I hate about Star Trek* is that the aliens are so boring now. It's all... humans with crusty foreheads. In a way, the first series was best...

*I don't hate Star Trek.

Yes, I dont mind Star Trek either, in fact, theres even many things I like about Enterprise, dispite it being the worst series.
(The captain is less wooden the most, the sets and setting is good...its just the "tired" stories that let the series down in my view).
---
In fact, im a fan of most sci fis, Stargate, Startreks ect.
Heck, I even watch "B movie" class ones like LEXX or Andomida occasionaly

However, Farscape is so different it makes all the other sci-fis look the same...it really does.
===
Other things that makes Farscape better:

*The most insaine, over the top incredible cliff hangers ever.
No other series on TV has cliff hangers this extream by a long shot.

* "free form" storys and editing.
There isnt many set rules to eppisodes, so you get ones that are really different.

eg.
"Unrealised Reality" was mixed in with 'interviews' about the main charecter.
This was plot-wise because an alien was analysing Johns brain to find out what people though of him.
But it wasnt explained in any way, it was just mixed in with the action.

* Scorpy/Grasshoper/Harvey/Scopius.

Probably one of the best charecters in any series ever.
Mysterious, and being the closest thing to a badguy the series has....yet hes working for what he believes in.
He helps the main charecter often recently, and has saved his live a few times.

The charecter comes in too flavours:
The "real life" version, which has somehow servived death on many occasions....Captain Scarlet like.

And the "Nueral clone" version, which inhabites Johns head.
The Nueral clone is what remains of a chip once put in johns head to extract knowledge.
Its Scropius personality stored in Johns subconcious.
Frequently John and this "Harvey" have conversations in stupid places created out of johns memorys.
These often parody films and such, and are simulatanously funny and very serious.

Bad is an understatement...it finnished on the most mind-blowingly extream cliff hanger ever
(When they filmed it they thought there would be a 5th series...Sci Fi even told them there would be one!)

well, hopefully it'll be solved if there's gonna be a movie or something

Farscape... well, it's a bit hard to get into, at least the first series, and it hasn't got many loose episodes (aside from the storyline) than other scifi programs.
Still, I started watching in the 3rd season, missed a few eps, but still was able to catch up.

It does look though that they altered the beginning of the last ep (i.e. Previously on Farscape, and than showing a rapid chain of clips from all previous eps)

Sometimes, but not very frequently

There are some nice ideas on other forums to plead for it (from bugging investors to sending bra's! )

if you didnt believe that last commnet:
http://www.watchfarscape.com/forums/...&threadid=8003

(Its probably because Farscape has the highest Female audience of any sci-fi ever)

www.savefarscape.com
---
The key is too keep demand high, get people to watch repeats and such.
Sci-Fi loses its Farscape rights after awhile, and then the creators are free to sale to any other channel.
If the repeats are getting good ratings, the one other channel might be willing to make the 5th season when they buy the repeat rights.

Remember, there was a physical protest mrchabout this that actualy got on CNN news TWICE!
So theres a reasonable chance of a 5th series.

Dumbest ending I've ever seen. It looked like they ran out of ideas.

/me kills Lightwing.

It wasnt supposed to be an ending, they wrote 4/5 seasons to go together.
They only found out the series was canceled on the last day of filming Bad Timming!

Run out of ideas? Did you see how frelling cool that Alien looked?
Thats by far the coolest Alien Ive ever seen....

For a Finale that was a bad ending. I mean, if it was in the middle of a two-part episode, then it could serve as a good cliff hanger. But for a closure, even if it was meant to be a minor one, it was bad. I liked everything up until the alien ship came into the scene.

That was bloody stupid. Especially how they quickly put in a tragic scene right after a humorous one (okay, you don't DO that if you want the film to flow). They did that in the Mummy and it made it look stupid.

And then uuuu, they were melted but the ring was magically preserved. Wonders of wonders.
