Cheap Console (uk)

People in the UK might be interested to know Index are currently saleing brand new Gamecubes for £40. (the typical price of a game)

The catalogues still list it for £80, but when you look it up on the system they charge £40. (this also applys to Littlewoods, as they are owned by Index)

Thought some people might want to take that offer up

LBA fans should also pick up Eternal Darkness (£10 or so, Gamestation) and Beyond Good and Evil (£20, most shops) for the system.
The Wind Waker is also a natural choice for fans of the adventure genra, allthough that hasnt yet gone down in price.

right now i go and claim those jafacakes from Nintendo as payment for this advert

wtf at prices. It's like consoles and their games are like printers and ink: you get the printers for near-free, but pay ridiculous amounts for the ink cartdridges.
BG&E for PC is €15 now by the way (along with some other Ubisoft games, like PoP:SoT). Why are console games that expensive?

BG&E was released for £20 on gamecube.
Thats hardly expensive at all.

In fact, thats half the price of a new pc game...
£40 is standed for any new game, bought in a shop.
PC or Console.
If you look online you can half that, if you buy second hand (recomend: Gamestation), you can half it again.

Maybe since console games are harder to pirate, the publishers assume they can get away with keeping the price high o_0

Supply and demand.

They sell games for £30-£40, because the public will buy them at that price. That's all there is to it.

With the Nintendo 64 the case was that the cartridges were more expensive to produce than CDs, and as a result of that the extreme prices.

Dont know what all you's are going on about £40 is the normal price for any new pc game... O_o

Nothing to do with consoles at all.

Typical uk prices for pc:
http://shop.game.net/browse.aspx?cat=10
(note the RRP)

Typical for console:
http://shop.game.net/browse.aspx?cat=7
(note the RRP)

See? about the same RRP each.

PC games tend to go to budget quicker, and you get a third level of "ultrabudget" sales that never happens on consoles.
But apart from that the prices are about the same.

Well, I guess they thought that if they can make console people buy something that expensive, the same thing can be said about PC-people

Thus a price increase and it seems that they're right >_o

I noticed it's cheaper to buy something at a small store (mostly set up by gamers themselves) than one of those big cd-stores

oh, absolutely, Gamestation> Game by a huge margin, dispite it being the smaller store chain. (they also seem far more knowledgeable in terms of staff)

The price of uk games in general is racked-up mainly by the retail.
Nintendo actualy sales THEM the goods cheaper to try to compansate, but the prices end up higher because the retail takes so much.
(the isnt limited to Nintendo, i think all major publishers do it)

That said, £ for Hour, a high quality game is better value then say, a DVD even if it is £40.

Im quite happy to pay £40 for Eternal Darkness, Beyond Good and Evil, Mario & Lugias Superstar Saga....all of those games are good value for the money...length wise, quality wise and replaybility.

What i hate is when you also pay £40 for a pill of crap, or something that you can complete in a day
Prices should vary on quality and length, not all set at a fixed £40 price.

there should be some kind of regulatory thing, like they give the game to 100 testers who all mark it out of five, and then five-star games would cost £40, four-star games would cost £32, one-star games would cost £8 or something... that would get the developers in shape pretty quickly :P

That actually sounds like an excellent idea! although i *very* much doubt it would ever be implemented, much to the gaming world's detrement.

And DF, Gamestation Pre-Owned; you know where it's at

I know well, I gave them 4 second hand games last week, and got 1 new game and 1 second hand game in exchange for them.
Considering most of the second hand games were GBC, that beat GAMES offer by a big margin
