Not that I can tell...we tried a few things and couldnt get it to work.
Theres confusion as to how its supposed to work anyway.
Apperently the JAP units are supposed to do it, but not the US...or something.
But what mode you have to be in ect..isnt specified?
I cant read my manual, naturely, so we cant work it out

AO on DS? Ohhh, link me up please.
Unfortunately, I cant.
When I said that, it was appearing on sites like www.dvdboxoffice.com under DS.
I cant find it now.
The site also seems to have taken away.
Many sites reported it (http://www.gamesarefun.com/news.php?newsid=4280)
Games like Moonlight Fables and Nanostray have been confirmed, but were also taken off the site.
So I am not sure whats happening.

It could be just a rumour, but then why would they take off the other Majesco published DS games? (Fables, Nanostray...which are very much in development).
I think purhapes they went supposed to publish any of the dates, and have been asked to take them down.

In other news, Ubisoft confirmed 3 new DS games:
http://www.cubed3.com/viewnews.php?storyid=3348
(Spliter Cell, Star Wars 3, King Kong)

Lineus is a trademarked Nintendo title for the DS, however it may be the result of a current games name-change. Stay tuned to see if it is actually a new game, or the re-naming of a game.

Age Of Empires and Zoo Tycoon are officially confirmed, however - they have not been announced? Confused. The Publisher has told sources about the games existance, but havent announced the title.

" Organizer Plus! (Summitsoft) "

Sounds very hopefull to me.
The DS has a kick-arse line up of games (at least, game types I love..Another Code, Lost in Blue ect).

But I always thought it really need an application.
Give me a schredral, notepad, calculator, paint app and wi-fi pc upload/download abilities and purhapes a "broadcase game list to nearby users" function. This would be very usefull.

I already use my DS as a calculator using some homebrew software, but its crying out for more PDA-ish functions

DF - How do you doenload stuff to your DS (homebrew calculator) is it easy or does it require special equipment. If I can download programs to my DS I will get one tomorow

The games lineup looks really good too - can wait for AOE

I finished Mario 64 DS and got all stars in 5 days so I got a little bored with my DS already . Prime hunters is cool to play once in a while tho. And so is Wario Ware, but my DS is already collecting dust like my other systems .

BTW: I find it very cheap of Nintendo that gb and gbc games aren't playable. They simply don't fit in the slot

How did they prevent them from fitting in the slot?? I was wondering if there was a reason for physically preventing the use of GB titles. I guess it means that people have to buy more games

Well the gba games are shaped differently at the bottom as you can see on the pictures. The left one is the gb and gbc cartridge and the one on the right is the gba. The DS slot also looks like the GBA cartridge so you can't get the gb games in (or you would have to remove a piece of the cartridge).

Edit: BTW, the Mario Sunshine level in Mario 64 DS was a cool addition. Same music as in Sunshine, very cool .

I thought they added extra bits to the gba cart so it couldn't go in a GBC hence any GB game will fit ina GBA but a GBA cant go in a GB....interesting

Me and my flatmate love it, but its kinda a "love it or hate it game".
Its bare-bones gameplay.
Its like Tetris, but completely and totaly different.
Try to find videos of it being played, theres no other way to discribe it. I would recomend it if you can pick it up on budget. (some sites had it for £15 at one point).

Basicaly, theres an action-like mode to the game, and a problem-solveing like mode to the game. They are both based on flipping tiles to form either rows or black or rows of white.

I use this:

http://www.movieadvance.com

Its very cheap and I can not recomend it enough.
It uses compact flash cards, and lets you run media from them.
As a bonus, it runs NES games, and some homebrew stuff.

However, most of its limitations are due to it being designed for the GBA.
When a DS-specific firmware patch comes out, that will open it out to a huge host of other functions
(basicaly, games/homebew are limited to a tiny 256kb limit at the moment).

Oh, the thing will also be used to get GB/GBC roms working! you can already get any working that are small enough to fit.

£50 got me a movie advance, a 512MB compact flash and the reader stick for the PC.
That lets me run about 10 very good quality Futurama eppisodes from my DS, or I can just use the thing as USB memory stick when needed

The reason GB/GBC games arnt playable is Nintendo didnt put a GBC chip in the DS.
The GBA had a old GBC chip as well as its new chip.
The DS has a GBA chip as well as its new chip, but didnt include the GBC chip.

The DS is slightly better though, as it can run the GBA chip at double the clockspeed, thus makeing it usefull for new games as well as being a way for 100% GBA compatibility.

Its still possibly with emulation though to get GB to work.

I was just wondering if anyone has some good GC recommendations I would appreciate it. I bought Tales of Symphonia on saturday but I don't think I am in a very RPG mood so I am going to swap it (God bless Game) for something else. I really want something with depth and involvement but without all that RPG messing around. I was considering Beyond Good and Evil (played it but my PC version had a glitch and I couldn;'t finish) or something in that vein. Any ideas anyone?

Hmm, On the Cube? The new Gundam vs Zeon game is excellent, so I recommend that. You may need to import it though, and get a freeloader (all worth it, in particular http://www.videogamesplus.ca/. You won't get strung on customs there either if you ask them to mark it down.)

BG+E also.

GAME REVIEWS!

2. Mario64 DS

Game Type: Platformer/Puzzle

How to review this?
Its a port/remake/with stuff.

I think its best to break it down into mearly the differences between the original and this one.
The original can be summed up with some of these reviews:
http://www.metacritic.com/games/plat...4/supermario64

First I will cover the basic game, then the "extras"

Controlls:
Mario64DS has many controll modes, both digital and touchscreen.
The one that I prefer lets you use the thumbstrap and the touchscreen as a "virtual analogue stick".
Just like an analogue stick, it lets you move precisely in 360 directions with varying speeds.

Unlike an analogue stick you done get any tactile sensation back, so it dosnt feel "right".
It certainly isnt a problem though, takes about 5 stars to get used to it.

You can also use the bottom screen for limited camera controll, and it always displays a usefull map. (which shows red coins if you find the right person)

Gameplay:
Again, read the review of Mario64.
Its all 100% there, nothing left out.
So whats added?

Whats new is 30 more stars to find (bringing the total upto 150).
These stars are mixed between new castle secrets, and a few new levels.

The other major change is the inclusion of new charecters.
You dont start as Mario, you start as Yoshi and you unlock the other charecters as you go along..first as tempory transformation hats, then, the actual charecter.
Finding the charecters is cool, as they each have a brand new level, and sometimes the level itself is hidden in the castle in a very neat way.
The level isnt just for freeing the charecter, as there are stars to get in them too.

These new charecters dont drasticaly change anything, but they do bring a new twist to many bits of the game. Each charecter feels different to controll, and has all the moves you expect.
Some bits, naturely, require the use of specific charecters. (it cant all be done with mario like before)

What else is new?

Well, the other major new thing is the unlockable "minigames".
You get these by catching wabbits..sorry, rabbits in the main game.
Theres around 30 of these games to find.
Dont be decieved over the "mini" aspex either, they are much more substainal then anything seen in warioware.
Some are as extensive as Tetris.

They vary in quality, some are rather poor and cheap, while others are extensive, fun and original. They all use stylus exclusively, and fit in well with the system.
I dont want to list them here, as its fun to discover them youself, but its good not to under-esitmate them.
I play them far more then the main game.

The last major new thing is...

Multiplayer:

4 competeing arenas, wireless 4 player. Single DSCard game shareing

The multiplayer basicaly consists of players running around a landscape
trying to get stars before the other people.
Normaly this wouldnt be too fun; The stars are showen on the map and are normaly just a mater of reaching them.

However, the fun comes into play when you factor in you can nick the stars off other people.
You can do this by bashing them, crushing them, jumping on them or eating them.
And make no mistake this is VERY fun ^_^
Its the sort of game that proves why Yoshi ownz all of us.

You can change into other charecters as well during the matchs, if you can find the right hat.
(eg, Wario is too fat for yoshi to eat)

One of the arenas is basicaly a race mode, as it features players going down one of the slides from the main game.

Biggest problem with the multiplayer?
Two short, no options.
Games are just 2 minutes long, which always seems too short
Especialy as they normaly start getting really fun at the end.
Why not 2,3,5,10 minute options?

Nintendo should have more faith in their ideas, I hope this idea for "battle mario" is expanded in later games, because it has potential.

Graphicaly

Beats the N64 hands down in all areas, but one.
Rather then trying to explain the differences, heres an excelent comparison:
http://www.livejournal.com/community/nintendo_ds/137162.html#cutid1

As you can see, textures have been improved a lot, and polygons slightly.
I can happily report the game also runs very smooth, no slow down at all.
New levels in the game look much better then the old ones too, so its clear the system is stuggling with anything.

Only problem is lack of texture filtering, which makes surfaces look pixaly up close.

Overall:

If you completed Mario64 100%, then you just have 30 new stars, multiplayer and minigames.
Only worth it if you dont mind repeating a lot you have done before...as most of it is the same. So its probably a no-buy, unless you like minigames.

If you only completed Mario64, there is lots new for you still here, and you should certainly get it. (unless you hated M64 that is)

If you never played Mario64 before, this is your chance to play the best, most extensive, and fun platform game ever created.

I really want something with depth and involvement but without all that RPG messing around. I was considering Beyond Good and Evil (played it but my PC version had a glitch and I couldn;'t finish) or something in that vein. Any ideas anyone?
Tales is a good game, but... well I suppose this is a prime example of a company saving all the money that was supposed to be used for effects, 'cause sometimes this game is just UGLY... and other games beautiful, but that is only in battles.

As DF says, BG&E is certainly worth getting. But also Metroid Prime 2 is one of the best games EVER! I havn't tried it yet, but I would think Resident Evil 4 is worth getting aswell. The next games I'm getting myself, are (in order):
Resident Evil 4
Metal Gear Solid 3
Pikmin 2.
I think it would be a little sad to have a GC and not even have a pikmin game, won't you guys agree?

OK I realise this is 3 posts in a row but hey - what ya gonna do.... Just wondering if anyone knows a) how long the DS will last on standby and b) if I have it on sandby in pictochat will I appear on other people's lists and if they send me a message will it make my sleeping DS wake on LAN and beep
a) AGES
Id say 4 days maybe.
I have had it on for 3 days with intermitant use, at least.

b) Not sure
When you close the lid Picochat seems to disconect.
But some people report beeps with some versions of the DS (even says in the manual)....I have yet to get this confirmed for which model
(I havnt got it working on my JAP version, at least)

No
I like stratergys so its weird I dont.
I didnt like the idea of the time limit (fixed in 2, I know)
And then I never got around to it....too many other games and work to do.

Incidently some bizare new DS stuff annouced in japan;

1. Bi-lingal Dictionary with handwriteing recognition,

2. "Work Your Brain", a kind of self improvement card featureing maths and langerage excercises (using the mic)

3. Loosen Up Your Brain, which looks like an IQ boasting set of problems

Weird stuff, but nice to see "non game" apps.

Its catagoricaly not, that was all rumours.

Nintendo said you wont see a new GBA at this E3 even.
They said they are working on it, yes, but anytime soon is fictional.

Apperently the rumours were started by some finicial anaylist in america...allthough based on what I dont know.
