It just works the same as a google search, they look at the content of the page being displayed when your looking at your email, then display adverts that match keywords.

Interestingly, you sometimes also get a few relivent sites sometimes that arnt adverts.

Dosnt make much diffferent though, there so small an unnoticeable I cant even remember where on the page google puts them

Yahoo:

Coming soon! 1GB of storage, free to all users
There's more in store with Yahoo! Mail. By early May, all free Yahoo! Mail users will receive an email storage increase to a whopping 1GB. That's enough space to keep thousands and thousands of emails -- so you'll never have to delete those important messages again!

Pathetic how other providers are trying to copy Gmail

It's disastrous that MS keeps acting like this with Hotmail.

Yup, if it wasnt for google microsoft would still be generiously giving out 2MB

Still, the *real* horrible thing with hotmail is its so shit.
I mean...really shit.
Its like they have no clue how to make a good interface...they have no concept of makeing stuff layed out well...

"You are visteing a site outside hotmail"

wtf is that about?

Why dont they just say:

"We are using up a inch of your screen and makeing half the links not work for your convience...thank you"

Gmail is not great for the space, its great because its extreamly clean, fast and easy to use.

Yeah, the "visiting a site outside hotmail" was bad... REALLY bad...

Especially that it gave a fucked up address instead of the real one.

You can do that even better with Gmail. Hotmail uses webmail for Outlook Express only. Gmail uses a real POP3 setup.

It should have been IMAP, that would be a lot more suitable and useful for a >2 GB mailbox...

I think every e-mail account, when you use it for a long time, starts getting so much spam, that most e-mails don't even arrive. I have this problem with my PortugalMail account. Once, all e-mails arrived there, so I always used that e-mail, but now e-mails don't arrive there anymore.

It can also be a message count limit, which has nothing to do with space. Try having 204 e-mails, with 10 MB attachments each. I'm sure it will work. But if you only have some few KB-long e-mails, then it would take too much of them to fill the 2060 MB limit, so it doesn't accepts the e-mails, until you delete some. On one of my other accounts (on a Slovenian free e-mail provider), I had 2/3 of the space free, but as that 1/3 which was filled, was filled with 999 e-mails (recived, 0 sent), and the provider specified, that one could have a maximum of 999 (received AND sent together) e-mails, it didn't accept e-mails, until I deleted all of them (why I had to delete all of them to make it possible to accept e-mails again, is not clear to me, though).

It's also proable, that your received e-mails amount in 1023 MB total, and the rest 1037 MB are used by sent e-mails (spam and trash aren't counted in your space), and as the GMail engine forgets to count them too, it seems, like you didn't yet use all of your space, but in fact, you did.

Edit: And G-Mail seems still to be increasing its space. The last time I checked the maximum possible space on my account, it was 2060 MB, now it's 2081 MB.

Have you been putting stuff in catagorys and such?

Think the un-achieved section has a limit.

Obras- you can see how much space exactly you've got, by logging out of Gmail, and looking at Gmail's main page.

- morshem: What? What post are you referring to?

BTW: It increased again. Yesterday, from 2081 MB to 2082 MB, and now it's 2085 MB.
