Registration
How about only letting registered users edit articles (I suppose that's possible, isn't it?)
I can think of two reasons to do this: 1. you'll have better knowledge of who changed what (and you can't accidentally edit anything while not registered) 2. It will help prevent vandalism (well, not really, since anyone can register, but it does serve as somewhat of a deterrent).

Yeah, morshem and me agreed in the past this would be better. However, there's no ready-made solution for this, as the MediaWiki guys aren't very interested in access control at all, as they feel it's doesn't honour the "wiki spirit", in which I still can mostly agree.
There are also no extensions that allow for global permissions settings, only page-to-page, and it's of course not desirable to have to add tags to each and every page for this. So until there's a proper solution to this, it won't happen. Fortunately it's very easy to see changes and roll them back, as well as block IPs (supposedly). So it shouldn't have to be a problem. |

afaik it's a simply config option for mediawiki
in MediaWiki 1.5 it was: $wgGroupPermissions['*']['edit'] = false; |
