Is this project the one that is mentioned at Wikipedia?
"Unknown Project with Ubisoft (TBA) - Consultant (Since 2006)"
If it is then I doubt it's going to be BG&E2

Any chance it can be Rayman?

If it's since 2006, that's a long time to develop a game, isn't it?

Depends how long was active development.
4 years is hardly unheard of even if it was all active, but I suspect its a bit onagain/offagain kinda thing.

Its an utterly superb film. Smart, pretty and very well directed.
Technically its joint 1st/3rd though.
Maybe 1/4 though, depending how highly I decide to rate District 9.

And besides...
...this is all completely offtopic.

Its normal this days. Heavy Rain from QuanticDreams also started in 2006 and will only be release Q1 next year.

But taking that much its expecting a huge thing.

It's a long time to develop a project, I'm not sure Fred is coming out with a game. Alex is right, stuff like Heavy Rain takes awhile, but Fred is so secretive and his last major project (TP) was in limbo, like, forever, I have no confidence in his current project.

But now, diferent from TP, he already has a publisher (Ubisoft).. Imo it's just a matter of time (I don't think too long) to see a screenshot of this new game.

Hopefully this will get Fred's carreer a little boost.

There are different phases on development in a game. Depending on your role in the development it could be between 5 and 2 years of actual development. Creative directors usually start working on a game before the current game has shipped. There's a lot of pre-production in the development.

I understand long development schedules.

I also understand that the last epic game Fred came up with was LBA 2...1997, folks.

Not to put a damped on the hope, but I am extremely skeptical of Fred as a developer at this point. Maybe he'll manage to change my mind with his latest project, but Agartha and Trium Planeta both got canceled. I don't count Soul Bubbles as a "major" project.

There will definitely be a game from Fred, that I have no doubt off. You don;t work with Ubisoft Montpelier and get canned several years through, they have enough money to make it work. The death of Trium Planeta resulted from a series of well founded disagreements Fred had with the founders/investors.

Basically they did not understand game design, and were forcing Fred to redesign the game such that it would be an embarrassment to himself, and a failure as a game.

Well, I can sympathize with "too many cooks in the kitchen spoiling the soup," but color me skeptical on whether or not Fred can actually get a *major* project that shows some progress within the next 5 years, especially if it's already been in development for however long now.

He finished Agartha, it was nothing whatsoever to do with him that it wasnt released.

Again...I want to see a *major* game on the shelves made by Fred. I can't imagine that's too much to ask since 1997.

But in the past years Fred was working with small teams developing projects.. now he is working at ubisoft, that's a stable JOB for him right now, of course he's going to come up with one or more games in the next years, maybe not huge epic games, but also not shitty games.. and that's good imo.

Fred isnt cursed, there isnt some "dont release Freds games" conspiracy going on here.
Its simply that since LBA2, the major games he has worked on where either not published (due to the Dreamcasts death), or the publishers/financiers dropped support mid-way.

There's nothing that indicates that his work at Ubisoft would be cancelled.

Well, I only see that Fred's Ubisoft project is nearing completion, which is a good sign.

Congrats. I'll believe it when I see it.

Again, I've seen nothing since 1997, so I'm not holding my breath.

I think that waiting for LBA3 keeps and always kept this community alive. What would have happened to MBN if LBA3 came out in 2000?
