Date stamp

Was the way dates are shown changed recently or something? I don't really remember them like that.
And anyway, I find the format of "year-month-date" very uncomfortable. Especially because I'm not always sure whether the date comes first or the month.

I think the best date format is "date-month-year".

Huh, yeah you're right.
The year of the post is displayed first.
I guess this has something to do with replying to old threads or posts.
Date-month-year is indeed the best date format

Either are fine for me, as long as month is in the middle.

I prefer date-month-year because that's what I'm conditioned to, but I am aware that other countries do month-date-year. year-month-date is just clumsy.

You mean "day-month-year". Date is the whole thing together.

I usually use day-month-year, but actually year-month-day makes more sense. For the same reason "two hundred" is 200 and not 002.

It's the thirtieth day of October of 2009? Makes a lot of sense. 2009-10-30, how do you even say that?

Well, Hungary (where I live) uses the year-month-day format, so I won't complain if the current format stays.

Seems unnatural to me, the usual German date has the form "thirtieth tenth 2009". But whatever, we should just use the most common date form. My "surveys" showed that by far most of the people on the MBN are from Britain, and I honestly have no idea how the British date is arranged.

"Thirtieth tenth 2009" is also how you say it in Israel, but when it's written down "2009-10-31" seems more easily readable.

But I told you! Day-Month-Year! Yes, I'm British...

Not at all !!! Hungary uses month-day-year. Anyway, I prefer day-month-year from far.
Now thatI think of it... Hungarians don't translate everything. They use both of the date formats... That's why I hate month-day-year, I always think at first that it's day-month-year....

(hmm fourth day of... which month is the 21st ?)

Day-month-year here. (Scotland) Just like for 30-10-2009 you would say "the 30th of October (10th month) 2009".

I believe it is month-day-year instead in America.

I prefer MM.DD.YYYY, but obviously if you have half a brain, you can figure out other permutations. :P

It's not always obviously though, if the date is shown as 10-05-2009, is that the 10th of May or the 5th of October? The most common format here is DD-MM-YYYY but it does put the month first occasionally, which is understandably confusing.

However reading entire threads usually gives away the answer when you look at the date-incrementation between two consecutive posts.

Maybe I'm using regionalism, but if it's 10-05-2009 (intended to be MM.DD.YYYY), it's going to be cold and fallish outside in October. Versus 05-10-2009, which would be in the middle of Spring.

I'd think it would be obvious in contemporaneous context. Rephrased.

Well it should be pretty obvious if it's on the actual date. But what about a few months from now, looking back at something dated that way? You won't know which it's supposed to be.

And anyway, for posts made in this day you never see the actual date, you see "Today".

Ehm that's quite handy you know.
If only the post-date is shown and not "Today or Yesterday" some people can get confused if you don't know today's date
And btw what's with the Orange or White A4 paper icon which is shown before the post-date.
