Twinsen Twinsen's odyssey music (soundtrack)

Hi Again guys

I really love the music in Twinsen's odyssey. Has anyone managed to download all the music from the game? I have found the songs on youtube but there is only a download link for one of the songs.

Can anyone guide me here as to a site where I can download these?

Ok looks good but before I download them what are the lengths of the songs? Do these all go for the full length? Most of the songs are around 3min 30sec or a bit longer except for one which is short.

Here is the youtube link to show you:

These are original music files from the game, whatever duration is on youtube, is a modified version. The link you show, plays one of the songs that originally is 2 seconds shorter (which is noticable at the end of the video by 2 seconds mute sound), so they are actually equal in length

You can also put your LBA 2 CD in a stereo system to hear the music there. Or in your PC CD drive using Windows Media Player or anything else.

I wonder if all this is possible with the new GOG version (if you burn the game to a CD, that is).

To answer your question:

Song of Gabriel: 3:54
The Empire: 3:46
Honey Bee: 3:14
Emerald Moon: 3:30
Zeelich: 3:40
LBA's Theme: 3:51
Theme Song MIDI: 5:07

Adeline Theme: 0:07
Purple: 0:50
...some shorter songs here, which are between 0:14 and 0:44

The Electronic Arts version has only LBA's Theme as an audio track, all the other songs are stored as WAV's in the Music folder. However, the Activision version has all the longer songs as audio tracks.

I always used the files on the disc. And it made me wonder what those "TADPCM" and "JADPCM" stood for.
I figured something like "<?> Adventure PC Music", with T and J being some French word.

I don't know but the TADPCM's are the longer songs (which are included as CD tracks in the Activision version), with the JADPCM's being shorter.

It is a pity we don't have a high-quality version of Song of Gabriel, because it's not in the CD (so I can't rip it in 320kbps).

\LBA2\MUSIC\TADPCM1.WAV is the Song of Gabriel.

You only want the ones numbered 02 - 08. The ones titled "music #4" etc are just short extracts from these other tracks.

Of cource some songs are short fragments of the bigger ones, but still.

Well if I gave you two copies of the same song, would you keep both or just one?

That's not a fair comparison, they are not copies, merely fragments.
I think the fragments have their own magic, they're not exactly the same.

And if you combine all fragments, you get the full Dark Monk key
...wait, what, I'm confused..

LOL, ADPCM is a compression type: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ADPCM

The prefix letters could mean "Track" and "Jingle".

"Adaptive differential pulse-code modulation"?
Nah, I'd go for "ADventure PC Music"
Track and Jingle could be quite right though.

I don't know anything about data compression, except for WinRAR. But only that it is the best type... haha.

Haha, I love that solution for ADPCM

What you need to know about it really is that it's a compression for music based on math, rather than the qualities and properties of human hearing (like mp3, ogg, wma etc). But it's a lot faster than those modern compressions, so it kind of made sense in the 90s. However, it adds some slight hissing noise here and there.

That's the reason I'm trying to hunt down a version of the actual CD soundtrack, not the wav files, because it'd be nice to have the real original quality. Sadly though, many of the (old) copies have skips or errors, so it's not easy. (I'm not actually an audiophile but doesn't it just bug you to know, in a little corner of your mind, that you can only have one of the greatest game soundtracks in a compressed format that's been invented in the 70s? ).

So if anyone has the Activision version with tracks that have no errors or anything, I'd be very grateful if I could have the music

Haha thanks
How can I tell what version I have? I know my CD is original, but I've read there are several versions of some sort.
Oops, it says on the CD it's Electronic Arts. Ohwell.

Yeah.... Also, not hard to tell: if you more than one tracks as actual CD audio, then it's the Activision version.

Ah, I always had just the one Theme. Aren't the other tracks on the Activision version found in other format on the EA version? I'd like to know if there's more than I have.
