LBA uses the arrow keys which ((big surprise!)) were meant to be used for movement in different directions! The whole "wasd" thing is retarded because wasd was only used for two-player games in old computers where two people would play a game in the same computer sharing the same keyboard, so both couldn't use the arrow keys at the same time.
Please do not use the term retarded as a derogatory comment. It is offensive.

I disagree again. Most people play FPS using WASD, because they also need CTRL, SHIFT, and maybe TAB for their games. The left hand has all those keys conveniently together, where as other FPS games don't require so many controls from the left side, and can easily be played with the arrow keys.

Basically, the WASD keys are very convenient for some games according to some people. You simply cannot say they're useless in all cases, or whatever, because a lot of people will say otherwise.

*Btw, I admit using the arrow keys does not imply you're doing so with your right hand. But I was referring to (in that case) platform games, for which you'd use your left hand for other keys on the left side.

Please, this thread is about the "big news". Clearly, one feature a possible remake/LBA3 should include is custom key mapping.

I think exactly the opposite, my pinky finger can perfectly hit CRTL and SHIFT while using the arrow keys, look at your keyboard, they're very near.

Anyway.

I never said it was "useless", I'm just defending that LBA's controls are PERFECTLY OKAY. That's all my point here.
And anyone who has problems using it "in favour of modern games trends that use other keys for whatever reasons" is simply handicapped and it's not LBA's fault, rather, the player.

Ooooooooooh I'm very sorry Mr.Unknown-3 posts-guy who joined in all of a sudden to try and give someone a moral lesson, before you try to feel offended by things on the internet, be sure to read the context.

Or now you're gonna say I can't call people idiots or say something is gay as well because that'll offend people who are medically diagnosed as an idiot or an admitted homosexual?

Yes, I see and knew that, and I share your opinion. The thing is, you were bluntly deprecating the WASD controls in general;

...which is why I defended the keys. LBA using arrow keys, no probs with that. It doesn't even require the mouse at all. I was rather pointing out you shouldn't be so offensive towards the WASD keys in general, as they are perfectly valid in other scenarios, like when you need the TAB more AND must use the mouse

Well, SpaceGuitarist...
I agree with you to an extent about gamers expecting to be spoon fed everything, (heck I've said so myself) but I don't get why you're so disapproving of something as trivial as the key layout used by games today. I mean, who cares? Even more so since I don't recall anyone suggesting that the remake should use WASD, because honestly I fail to see how that would make any difference, at all.

The issue is not the key layout but rather stuff like the in-game camera (which admittedly I always liked but many others have issues with), aiming with the magicball (maybe there could be an arrow at Twinsen's feet that tells you the exact direction you're pointing at to aid aiming without resorting to easy mode stuff like targeting enemies) or informing the player that there actually is a key to dodge incoming projectiles... minor stuff like that.
LBA1 on the other hand I feel like it needs to greatly reduce the firerate of enemies or implement the ability to dodge like in LBA2 because no matter how you look at it, it's neither particularly fun nor challenging when most enemies can lock you into a corner without being able to react or get out of the way because of the hurt animation, it becomes a deal of "whoever attacks first wins".
(and again, I'm saying all of this as someone who had absolutely no problem playing either of those games as a kid)

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Ok.

Fair enough!

All your points are valid.

With exception of the dodge key which is in the game's manual but alright.

I know. Here's the story: my hate started when I saw meme-like demotivational pics on the web of people playing games with the arrow keys and being called newbies because of that, like "omg true gamers use wasd - LOOL, u n00b!!11". And so, being part of the old generation of gamers I felt this need to defend to death the use of the Holy Arrow Keys as if it was some sort of crusade.

Sorry for disrupting the thread with it.

Nice a LBA 3 would be cool. To be truthful I've never played LBA 2, I didn't have a pc back then (the 90s) but I saw my friends brother play. I remember it raining and someone stole an umbrella. Never got round to playing it but will very soon.

But your pinky can't touch both Control and Alt together. And that is needed in many games (fps aren't the only type of games out there!). If you using WASD to walk, you can do that with much more ease than otherwise.

But again, as J Mckalling said, it all depends on which type of game you are playing, and what you most like. It might be better, but if you preffer the other way, then be happy with it

They could always add tips like that in the scenary loading screen, like they do in today's games.

Please, Buy or download the GoG version of LBA2. You are losing so much! Its one of the best games ever, it made my childhood so much better

Actually I never claimed it's not possible to use the right ALT button with your left hand while using the arrow keys, while being 2 meters tall, my hands could perfectly do that just fine (tallll fingers ).

But being able to move LEFT while doing so, that's a problem. Unless you reassign your middle finger, which I don't think is a good idea in any case.

just because I don't post doesn't mean I haven't been reading here for years, nor does it make my points any less valid.

Yes it is wrong, just like its wrong to call something gay. I know gay people as well as people with downs syndrome and I find your comments offensive. It is exactly the same as using the N word.

The fact that I need to point this out to you shows you are either a child that doesn't know better, or an adult that should know better.

LBA is a happy, friendly place as is the general tone on this forum (uncharacteristically for the web). It saddens me that it should be lowered on here in that way. Please show some tolerance for those different to you by not using words that describe who they are in a derogatory way.

Oh dear. We had the exact same problem many moons ago when I called something retarted.

The problem is: unlike the word "gay", non-native English speakers like us never hear the word "retard" being used to describe somebody who actually has a mental handicap. That's why we don't think there's anything wrong using it. In our book, it only has meaning "3", so to say:

Please forgive us our ignorance!

Also, what's wrong with meaning 1?

Ah, come on... its stupid to argue about something like that in here... this is NOT the place to do such thing. If you have something against someone, post on his wall...
And no one means harm here (at least I think so), so if you got offended by a joke please try to forget about it. Its not like something in here should affect your life so much.

Yeah, you could also say "Non-white" people, but I'd rather refer to their homeland instead of skin tone.
