Dialogue sound is very quiet in LBA 1

When I play the gog version of LBA 1 I can almost not hear what the characters is saying because the sound is too quiet and the music is too loud. I've tried to change this in options but it does not help.

Does anyone know what I can do?

Open the folder where the game has been installed and open "dosboxLBA_single.conf" in notepad and above where it says "RELENT.EXE" add "MIXER CDAUDIO 50:50". This sets the music volume to 50%. Change the number as you see fit .

My config for example is:

Code:
[autoexec]
# Lines in this section will be run at startup.
@echo off
mount C ..
imgmount d "..\LBA.DAT" -t iso
c:
cls
mixer cdaudio 50:50
RELENT.EXE
exit

Lol, I've never seen this file. That's just batchscript! Is this supposed to be added automatically to windows' autoexec script?

Anyway, I had the problem too at some point, just wanted to point out one of the patches solved it partially, but not perfectly.

It's the DOS commands entered when you run the .exe.

I can read exactly what it does, it doesn't do more than running the mixer program from the iso file, with the "mixer cdaudio 50:50" command. There are lots of other ways to do this also, but I guess it's the most convenient way to access the specific command.

I have this same problem.

But I don't get your solution.

So if it is 50:50 what should I put instead to solve the problem?

20:80 ? or like 20:20 ?

Please elaborate!

In other worlds, they put a message inside an asteroid to protect it while it travels through space to reach some other planet. In this case it is a gift, a guitar, rather than just a message.

That line won't be there at first, you add it yourself. The '50:50' means the music volume is cut to 50% in the right channel (Speaker) and 50% in the left channel. I currently have mine at 35% which seems about right for me.

Well, this is useful to know!
I've been bothered by the CD music drowning out the dialogue - and since I've been trying out the game in French to see how it translates to English, I'm listening extra hard to hear how it sounds.

I've now added "mixer cdaudio 20:20" to my DOS-Box autoexec section and now the music's playing at a respectable volume compared to good audible dialogue! Thanks for that!

Didn't know about this fix, but never had such issues.
Anyway, it's always good to know.
