Notable video game OSTs you know of / listen to often

Hi there!

Been a while since I've posted on this forum but eh, I keep coming back now and again that must mean something

Been listening to the LBA OST quite a bit recently (you can find it on spotify and others now!) and even though I'm quite certain the nostalgia factor prevents me from being totally objective, I find the music is musically pretty interesting and enjoyable. Nice melodies, decent orchestration, diverse enough... And I realised that I don't know of many other good video game OSTs that may be out there waiting for me to enjoy them ! So here is my suggestion:

Let's list the video game OSTs you like ! It can be something you listen to all the time even though it sounds pretty common, or something you found very strange, or even better something you found interesting and keep coming back to often!

Of course, I'll start. I just love Arcanum's OST. The musician who wrote it tried to convey the idea of early music (old scales, old forms) through a modern form (the string quartet) and it works beautifully. It even takes its influences from music I like a lot, so it's a full win.

Without further ado, here is a youtube link:

And, if you're curious, here is what the author has to say about its music (which I took the previous description from) : http://benhouge.com/arcanum.html

Icing on the cake, the OST seems to be pretty much free nowadays (been on download on the Sierra website), and you can even find the scores on the author's website.

What about you? Do you have OST you like? Please share, and don't spare us on any details you may find about them!

PS: Damn, that youtube link has one tune I didn't know was in the OST, cool!

I randomly listen to OST's when I'm writing or working (if I'm home). It helps concentrating. I listen to Beyond Good & Evil's OST, Assassin's Creed 2, Some music from LBA and Kingdom Hearts. Sometimes I pick random youtube playlists and listen to OSTs of games I've never played.
Arcanum seems to be a good game. Reminds me of Baldur's gate... might check it

hmz...oh, lots of Metroid remixs. (I think most from the OCRemix website).

God, I can't even get started on the subject.

I don't want to be annoying, so I will resume everything: I mostly play videogames because of their soundtrack. I'm a true gamer, but the soundtrack is probably what I most like out of everything.

That's right. I Love playing videogames, but sometimes I go back and play old games just for the nostalgia of listening to those sweet sounds while playing something that was part of my past. I know every single one of you do this aswell, but I don't expect you to understand how it works with me. Its not just about soundtracks, I just can't have a single second of my life without a song in my head. It constantly annoyes me, specially when I need to focus on something or I'm tired and need some rest, but at the same time makes my life much happier.

I have made a playlist with a few good soundtracks on my grooveshark account, but that doesn't cover a lot of games that I know and love. Link for it is below:

http://grooveshark.com/#!/playlist/V...Music/86774596

The ones in that list that I most enjoy listening to are probably:

Emerald Moon - Little Big Adventure 2
Ascending Dawn - Aether Mod (minecraft)
Eastern Valley - PangYa
HillTop Zone - Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Gludio Castle Town - Lineage II
Ezio's Family - Assassin's Creed 2
China Field - Silkroad Online
Land of Music 4 - Rayman 1
The Holy Valley - Rogue Galaxy
The Legend of Zelda songs - ALL, because why not.

Also, I should send a shout to Laura Shigihara, because she is a fucking awesome composer.

Thinking about most Sonic games have great soundtracks.
I think #3 on the Megadrive has some of my favorites.

Re-playing Chrono Trigger at this exact moment on my cellphone (using an emulator), and I just love the soundtrack! Wind Scene is probably the best one
