Best videogame music ever

hi all, this has probably be done already, but what's your favorite game music ever?? (apart from LBA1&2 ofcourse, no everlasting debate to know whether LBA or LBA2's better! )

Didn't we have that already?

Anyway, in no particular order:
Rayman
LBA 1+2
Metal Gear Solid 2
Final Fantasy VII+X
Quake 2
Devil May Cry had some nice parts
The Longest Journey
Simon the Sorcerer

Final Fantasy VIII

Zelda, Link's Awakening
Probably more which I can't come up with atm.

I have a lot of VGM on my HDD. Most of the times it's not just the music that's good but the memories of the game you get back by listening to it.

Anachronox, Unreal, The Longest Journey, Syberia, Command & conquer, Crusader No Remore\No Regret, Daggerfall, Daikatana, ...

Could go on for quite some time. There's a lot of good game music. Some games have a lot of good music, some have a couple of great tracks. But it all depends on my mood to what I like at the moment.
I don't really like licensed music for games.

Oh and almost forgot... The Neverhood's music is awesome. Very special though, not everyone would like it.

Zelda (all).

Rayman (man, I could just take out the old rayman cd right now).

ICO (I'm still not so cool about the game, but the ending makes up for it, and the music, while almost only played doing the end, is fantastic).

FF6/7

Cave Story (Well, doesn't this game just have it all?)

Baldur's Gate 1/2

Half-Life 2 (the one that starts once you get the crowbar, is awesome!)

Age of Wonders

Final Fantasy VIII and FF in general has very nice music indeed
The Sims is good aswell
oh and Warcraft 2 too!!!
at least, these games are those (with LBA1&2) whose soundtracks are in my playlists
Too bad nowadays most vg musics are just crap.

maccie: Cool! What track were you listening to / what's your favorite Rayman track? If I had to choose one I think I'd pick the music world's track (how ironic), but I'm not sure - all the tracks are so awesome!
And I also really like The Sims music, although it's not music that stays with me after I finish playing.

CF, neverhood music is wicked!
I'm listening to the whole soundtrack right now.
My second choice would be BG&E.

Icewind Dale 1,2

Streets of Rage 1&2 and Golden Axe 3 are my favourite. Yuzo Koshiro is a really great composer even though he blatantly lifted some songs for those soundtracks.

Agreed. And this may sound weird, but I love the music from Lode Runner.

@fishie : I'd say the musical world aswell, although the jungle ones are so stunning too. Oh, did I mention somewhere that me, my bro and my cousine (spontaneously) create acappella videogame polyphonies all the time? We did that for all the rayman GBC tunes (nothing to be compared to the PC version ofcourse but well we enjoyed them too), FF9, 8... and we also do piano arrangements (LBA, mario, zelda... creative geeks we are yea )

heh i'll do a sample
sample there you go (i'm singing all the parts since i'd be kinda hard to sing live with a person who lives 500km away from here)

I agree. Just been getting into it lately. It's almost as good as the Sim City 3000 soundtrack...

Both soundtracks are very proffessional sounding, like they were recording as "proper" albums rather than game music (but all the pieces are still very evocative of a sprawling, urban world.)

rayman on game boy color, you know, the music world have some music like that. Incidentally the three of us haven't played the game in a very long time so i couldn't tell if my version remained true to the original

i meant it's completely different musics as it's completely different games.

glad you liked my sample though, but it's funnier if you know the original
