Good Screensavers

I'm really bored of the windows flower boxes and exciting flag that randomly reappears at different locations on the screen, so most of the time I have screen savers disabled, but I would like something cool to be going on when I leave my computer unattended...

So this is your chance to share good places to find good screensavers, primarily with me. But everyone else also!

The only really cool screensaver I knew was a Windows 3.11 one with Disney characters who start invading the screen and push your windows all around and mess around with your icons.

Now I just use black screen... but if anyone knows a good screensaver it'd be cool.

I remember there was a simple LBA screensaver that pops random pictures and game objects on the screen, but that was years ago, before the MBN I believe.

Anyway I don't think I had a screensaver in the past 3-4 years, and I think the last one was just some Matrix code going from top to bottom.

That sums it up pretty much .

Don't think I ever actually saw a screensaver which I really liked, maybe except for a Win 3.11 one which makes your screen look like a Mosaic game (something like this thingy) and then starts messing around with the squares randomly.

btw, the LBA 2 screensaver is available here. Don't know if it actually works though
edit: wow, a fascinating screensaver . Makes me think that a nice screensaver would be something like the LBA 1/2 ending credits, with all the characters walking around.

Get Linux. Then you get hundreds of brilliant open-source ones. I generally have mine on random so I get a different one each time.

The ones you get with Ubuntu aren't as good as the ones I had on Gentoo though.

I remember that one actually, there was also one with Mickey Mouse dressed as a wizard, and there were these brooms... Uhh, anyways.

The last one I had was the matrix code but I got bored of it quickly. So no one really uses screen savers? I'm actually surprised.

agreed, the only reason I use it is because I still have one CRT connected to my workstation. Otherwise I would simply use the monitor's standbye feature.

Just make sure you dont go downloading random screensavers online, a screensaver is basically an executable (just a different file extension). You have been warned.

It'd be cool to have a screensaver with characters who actually start rummaging through your files and open your folders and mess around with your wallpapers and stuff.

Sort of like in Animation vs. Animator.

Noone needs screensavers any more in this century. They are outdated and no longer needed. I still have some boring Windows default though.

That was the name of it! I wonder if that can be downloaded somewhere now, although it will look very outdated on a new computer I imagine...

After dark... I remember that name.

Actually, all the screensavers out there are just random pictures, or some corporate shit with logos and stuff, no artsy screensaver "scene".

If I had one, I would like it to be unique, like, a animation made of sand or something uniquely, equaly artsy.

I'd like anything really, something like little people messing with your icons or something really simple like bubbles floating up the screen and popping...

Can't remember who said it above, but the LBA2 credits sequence would be quite good, or maybe like the Memory Viewer, so it goes through all the videos...

Why don't you modelers/programmers make some LBA screensavers?

Don't know what AfterDark is, but the first Google result was http://www.screensavers.com/afterdark/

Heh, "you must be using IE 5.01 or higher to install screensavers"
