McDonald's on the move

This day I read that McDonald's will open a 1,000 more restaurants in the world. This is seriously dangerous cause people will become fat animals this way.
Thereby they're gonna renovate another 2,300 existing restaurants.
Specifically, McDonald's plans for 150 new U.S. locations, 260 in Europe, 490 across Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Australia, 80 in Latin America and 20 in Canada.
I know they want to make some badass money with their "genious" food but this is world threatening.
2,4 billion dollars, that's all it's gonna cost

Austin: I guess we showed those capitalist pigs who's boss, eh comrades?
Basil: Austin, the Cold War's over. We won.
Austin: Oh. Yay capitalism!

(R.I.P. all the chickens that heroically sacrificed their lives for this picture)

Actually McDonald's "Chicken Select" is a lot better.

As humans we need to eat less meat.
Not go veggy, but drastically reduce our meat intake. It takes far too large a ecological footprint per person and is using up oil reserves ridiculously quickly.(as well as having hugely negative health impacts).

McDonalds isnt really that much of a bad guy, more a symptom of a bad diet.

Sadly, we evolved to eat as much as we can whenever we could get hold of it.
In today's western world that sensible instinct now works against us.

(What doesn't help either is there isnt that much good, quick, and cheap veggy foods)

I never saw anyone getting fat from fastfoods in here (or any european I know for that matter). So no worries. Fast food fatties are mostly contained on the northern american continent, and moving around tires them too much so they won't spread.

There's a different culture of eating in Europe I guess. Not to say that some people don't eat like thilfy pigs and become overweight... just that the general trend seems a bit different.

It's actually pretty stupid when you think about it. The soy we use to feed the animals in the farms (or rather meat factories...) could feed the world twice...

Imho, if you want to eat other animals, you should go into the woods and kill them with your bear arms - the right for which is granted to you in your second amendment !!! .

Personally I can hardly go an entire day without eating meat. Everything that isn't meat doesn't feel like a real meal to me. I don't usually eat that much anyway... But when I do, it better have meat in it.

Fisho's - the most healthy is once a week. DJ - I ate lots of soy stuff actually, and some of the stuff made from it is pretty good (as long as it doesn't try too hard to be meat...).

I agree, I don't dislike soy necessarily, but it never will be meat.

Ah, delicious meat. How I love thee.

490 more restaurants in Asia, maybe this will come out good for the food problems there. Also some in Africa, to be honest, I see this image of a McDonald's placed on this mud-ground place in between some wooden houses.

There's a MacDonalds 5 blocks from where I live. In a shopping mall. Surrounded by a Virgin Active gym. With flats made from OMW bricks.

Your view of Africa is quite ignorant.

There's actually some really delicious veggy or Soya based stuff.
But the problem is its really darn expensive compared to meat.
If you want something that tastes as good, you normally have to pay at least twice as much, and normally for something half the quantity too.

As for simulation meat stuff, the only one that really works is good quality mock-duck.
That stuff can be so darn close to duck its freaking scary.

I still eat meat and I'm not planning to become a vegatarian, but I eat way, way less of it ever since I started living on my own and has to cook my own meals. It'd be good if everyone would just consider and think about it, because I feel that a lot of people only eat the amount of meat they do simply because they're used to it and never really thought about it.

I quite liked this ad from McD's

Err, what? This is completely inaccurate, all meat-imitation food is much cheaper than actual meat.

Anyway, I often give my friends meat-free food to try and I think the general reaction is that it doesn't taste bad, it's just not as good as meat. So try not to compare the two, just think of it as a new thing.

Yeah, I'm not a particular fan of "meat-imitation" but rather "soy- or fungi-based protein-rich products"

To make maybe, but not for sale.
Go to a supermarket and compare the veggy stuff weight for weight, with the meat stuff.
It doesn't make sense but its ridiculously more expensive.

I mean, maybe not if you compare a good stake or something, but you can get a whole chicken for the price of 2 packets of good quality veggie burgers. (and even those wouldn't feel you up as much as 1/4 of the chicken would.

In a nutshell: 1kg of meat requires FAR more resources to produce it than 1kg of similar non-meat foods.

Choas - As wacko says. Basicaly raising a cow, transporting it, killing it, making it into a burger and then distributing a burger take up a heck of a lot of resources.

There is health benefits too.
We didnt evolve to eat quite as much meat as we do at the moment.

@CF: ooh, not sure about the recent developments, but that seemed promising yeah.
Then it's just the health issues.
