music request?

Hi,

Since I succesfull wrote just two new tunes for the prequal, I'm kind of free to spend some time on this project for a song or two.

I know I'm not the mainwriter here, but since I was asked to become involved (or volunteered, don't remember!), I'm kind of wondering if there's any request.

I have lots of experience and plenty resources, and some pianoplaying practice....but you perhaps know that already. I got some tunes online as you can see in my signature, to give you an idea of the styles I'm familiar with.

uhm I use a vsti sampler for loose samples of instruments. those are sf2 samples. those samples and that sampler is actually free! you just need a program to use vst or vsti with.

if you got vst working, i can send you some samples which are not copyrighted and very free.

I more or less use vsti's with high quality samples in themselves, which are unfortunately not free.

Neko, I've said to OBras that I feel like only one person should do the music for this game.

I'm certainly not saying it should be me, but because of the difference in our styles, I feel like the atmosphere would be ruined if the in-game music would be changing composer now and again.

So I'm disinclined to start anything until he gets back to me about this.

I might feel the same about my projects, but sometimes the starters of projects want to get as many good men as they can get for something. That's understandable.

However, when it gets to the art of composing, it often feels weird to have more composers. LBA is P.Vachey, Clear and simple. two composers would be odd.

Music often feels like an ego thing, the composer knows best and works on his own. Why can graphical artist cooperate and be creative while composers have more trouble working with others?

I kind of reason that a project isn't an ego thing, and I'm in it for the team, wether or not I prefer things otherwise as a musician.

you see how we solve it in the prequal?
I kind of chose the scenes i like to write music for and leave the other scenes to the other composer so we both have a big input in the music.

ps; i'm pretty broad experienced, I'm pretty sure if you set out how the atmosphere is going to be, I can write my music further on that atmosphere without copying it. at least I can try

I see what your saying, but the graphical style can be imitated better, the music cannot. We'll be creating two very different sounds, and like you say, LBA is just one composer, if there were two, it just wouldn't make sense.

This isn't an ego issue of mine, while it might look like it, I honestly feel there would be a better outcome if there was only one musician to work on the project.

There's no problem with working with someone else and splitting up the tasks, but at the end, when you've got lots of different sounding music, it feels like the game might not create the best atmosphere it could if only one of us does it.

I'm completely indifferent about who actually does it, if it's you then I'm completely happy with that, but I'll also be happy to do it.

OK, I'll re-iterate what Double-J already told me on AIM back some months ago.
If only one person is doing the music, then we have no other possibility, than to use that music.
But if more than one person is doing the music, then we have a lot more choice in the end.

So, Ricochet, Neko, and Catulin Barbuceanu all stay in the LBA: The Great Rebellion Team as music compsoers.

- Neko: Yes, please do some tunes.
I already told Ricochet to do the tune for the Desert Island Military Base inside and outside, and I would like you to do the tune for:
Spoiler:
The underwater level, and some for the Principal Island Maritime Headquarters inside and outside, and for the harbor behind the Principal Island Maritime Headquarters.

(Whoever is not in the LBA: The Great Rebellion Team, please don't read this.)

This would be it for now.

Plane visual styles compliment each other muts more easy than something so complex and fragiel as music.

You have to be two musical (and teamwork) geniuses to create a good musical score together, or just work very hard to very strict rules. That what I think, anyway.

I worked before with a composer and it worked perfectly because we could both feel the atmosphere that was given to us for that tune...gives yes, because it seemed very much something that surpassed both our individual scores.

Conceiving by working together is a beautiful thing. But like I said: visual stuffs compliment each other much more easy than something delicate as music.

Well if you decided to use three different composers, that's okay, but I refuse to compete in any way. So I don't really like the sound of what you're saying, seems like "If one is not good enough, then we can use the others".

And I do know that's what it means. But I'm not competing.

Nay that would be awkward. to have each make a certain song for a scene and then running to the other if that feels better.

I'm not competing either, since it affects the music; it gets showy instead of reallfelt. and hollow even if it sounds rich and full.

Odysseus: I know. Music is very delicate.

It's a common OBrasilo policy to use everything accesible, not everything needed.

Whoops, sorry

This is not a competition of any sort. What I actually meant is, that if more than one person is composing the music, then I have more possible choices for each and every single tune, as in, I don't have to give all the work to one person.

Everyone's work will be used, though, otherwise I wouldn't list you all as Team members.

The Prequel is blessed to have a number of extremely talented musicians working with us. It would be a shame if we didn't utilize their talents. It's not a competition, and it isn't a knock on anyones talents. It is simply to give the team alternatives for individual sounds. While one composer can be a good thing, I don't see why, if executed properly (like in our team), where everyone gets along, it also isn't a good thing too.

awesome. If you can record it in decent quality I'd be happy to include you to my song. The composition is close to finished.

If someone can write music on paper, I would be able to play it on flute. (the type of the one that Twinsen uses at the cleare water lake)

How well can you record it?

Well umm... I have a microphone on my webcam... You're right, I don't think that it will make a great quality of sound. But I have an other instrument, an ocarina, which makes a very pure sound.
