Work for Fred!

That's right, for all you programmers out there, this is your dream job.

http://gloomywood.org/annonce1.htm

Glooomywood (Fred's new company) needs someone like you. Err, that is, if you are qualified. So go check the link, if you speak french that is... anyway, I'm sure that to work in a dream job it's worth it to learn french no?

Sgk over & out.

More seriously, you could also try the various "learn programming games"

http://alexnisnevich.github.io/untrusted/ for example for javascript.

I admit though the learning curve on that gets pretty sharp.

Wow... impressive... I got around the first three levels by deleting all the blocks, the fourth one now wants 104 blocks Quite hard for me who only learned one year of C++. Interesting concept though, I'll try to finish that game.

edit : great, now I can't delete blocks at all x)

Yes, it gets evil.
Its good because it really teachs you to think outside the box and cheat at things....or, at least, theres normally a few ways to do something including "cheaky" ones.

I'm stuck on level 20 :P

Quite interesting game.
Since I know very little about programming (close to nothing since, I started to learn last month), I have played a few levels with Walkthrough and a few without. I got to level 7 (the woods one) but now I have to go to work

Do you guys have any tips? I noticed you have to search for the player and his color every time you want to start a new function (to the phone, at least). Anything else?

I can only suggest trying everything. Unless the code specificly forbids something, cheat as much as you can. Try moving the goal or other objects. Try to make some of the existing code not work correctly to your advantage.

I certainly did things the hard way a few times, only to see a vastly easier way I didnt think of. (..comments.....).

I'm at level seven myself. I was thinking of creating a complicated "if" that would change the player's colour depending on his position.

Done the same

I'm kinda stuck on the 8th level.
I know what to do to move the raft, but I'm not sure how to "call" the raft (object) to add the commands to it.

I might apply once my C and C++ reach a reasonable level. Until then, I'll just regularly look at the page and pray God it doesn't expire.

Interesting job spec.

Too bad I just changed roles and probably the $$$ won't be enough to change countries once again.
Anyway, it could be indeed a great opportunity to work together with Fred and learn a lot from that experience.

I was really surprized to login to MBN today to upload new Twinsen art and to see this thread. I'm very respect you for all of your work you doing for LBA world (thread's author and all people on this forum)!

I'm so sorry that I can't help you a lot. My programming level still junior, but I had good experience in PHP/JS/jQuery. I like web-programming. I had no motivation to learn other languages in past, but I like programming by some reasons.

Also, my French level is so tiny - one year of learning. And it was very very long time ago. It was difficult to me even to write this post, English isn't my mother language. You're right, it's a good motivation for return learning if I wanna help to LBA in future.

But I really want help you still. And I'm ready to learn. My spouse is very able programmist and may can help me. Also I had very good experience in drawing, if you are interested. That will be an honor for me - work with F.R. together in one team.

And that will be my childhood dream...

I was dreamed oneday (if I can) to create LBA2 remake and to spread it freely in Russian.

Strange how noone here accepted to take this job; I was under the impression that the MBN was swarmed with programmers (talk about LBA fan projects and editors and stuff!), of various skills, and I was most certain at least one of you would both speak french & be a hardcore programmer. How odd... Maybe it's just that most old time programmers I knew don't hang around anymore? In that case that's such a shame they don't know about this opportunity.

If it is, better thing will be try to find good specialist using sites with job vacancies than fan site. Those people won't love LBA truly, but they can write a good code.

My experience on doing fan site tells me, that fans usually is very active, but always need of training. (not beat me, please).
