Talking "Classic Gameing"

Anyone here really into... classic gameing... know anything about methods of emulating old sound cards in Windows XP, some old games look for AdLib and older SB cards and won't find anything in WinXP and will want to use PC speakers, in which case I have to boot up Win98 which sometimes works, but usually I just have to exit win98 all the way back into DOS mode, and then most of the time, it works...

Also, some DOS games rely on some sort of strange timeing mechanism that causes things to run REALLY slow inside windows, anyone know how to fix that?

Two problems that irk me

1st problem (sound): check out VDM Sound, this allows you to easily emulate SoundBlaster soundcards in Windows 2000/XP/NT. Works great for me in XP.

2nd problem: no idea. Never had it, I think...

The only slow running DOS application I had was LBA, I fixed it by selecting an other SoundBlaster type.

LOL i was fooled for a minute by that, too

i want to set up a li'l old 486DX with win3.1. i remember how easy it was to set up win3.1/dos5 just the way you wanted, with cute boot menus...

some games are just impossible to run any more; in win95/98 it's hard to clear the base memory for them, and in winMe/xp it's hard to make them compatible with sound, video, etc.

never heard of that slowdown thing. actually it's the opposite problem for me. i always have to try slowdown programs for any dos thingies to work
