I think this is an interesting thread. Agree with everyone's points! Even as a nine year old I was relieved to find a main hero who didn't just have big muscles and a machine gun, a normal working marriage and pregnancy (imagine that!), and a woman who could fix a car. In my marriage today too, I can't seem to do anything practical no matter how I try, but my wife can fix mechanical puzzles and then some.
It's worth noting a key original creator of the first Tomb Raider, Toby Gard, left the franchise after the first game (and sacrificed a lot of money in doing so) because of how he saw Laura getting sexualised in the sequels. He went on to make that game Galleon. Also, Benoît Limare has said on Facebook that that new LBA concept art everyone is upset about won't be used, so nobody needs to worry about that. The newer image represents where they're at.

it is a stereotype ofcourse, but you otherwise have to talk about individual people.
it's hard to define really, because i never met a girl and thought 'oh she's type girl next door'. But Tomb Raider presents basically how super models looked like in the 90's, and I often didn't find them interesting, and rather prefered the girls in my class :P

It's very common nowadays to see woke agendas where there aren't any (and also on the other side of the political spectrum, to see racist agendas where there aren't any). Same happened when a Victor Hugo statue got refurbished with a skin color that came out a bit dark. Or when the concept art with the scared-looking Twinsen and the tough Zoe came out and some people thought now the reboot will have a radical feminist agenda.
Funny thing is also that with the brown skin and black hair, he looks like Ronaldinho, and yet the two Brazilians complain

Oh boy. Battler is right in what he said. But reading some replies here made me so angry.
First: Guys, Battler (former Obrasilo) was born in Brazil and therefore a brazilian, even though he went to Europe very early on and grew there. OK? But that does not matter. It doesn't matter where we're from. That's not the issue here. I don't mind if they change one rabbibunny from orange to brown, or some whoever grobo from blue to gray. But deliberately changing the skin colour of THE MAIN FUCKING CHARACTER OF THE WHOLE ENTIRE SERIES who happens to be a 'white hetero male' - the arch-enemy archetype of the progressive Left - is a shitty shady move, whatever reasons led them to that, and don't tell me this was a "mistake when picking the colour pallette" because it's clear nobody at 2.21 is colour blind. As for cutscenes inconsistency blablabla: I've just watched ALL of them (they're on youtube, lookup) and it's OBVIOUS FOR ANYONE WITH A BRAIN WHO EVER SAW A 3D SOFTWARE IN USE that it has to do with the poor lighting/simulation of the 3D rendering at the time, the high contrast shades cast by the light vary A LOT, but the 3D model is just one, with a single clearly defined skin colour, and that is caucasian. ANYONE can see that consistency in both games, during all gameplay, in every render made for advertising and magazines, etc. etc, etc, ETC., there's a gazillion references just look it up. Saying that he was "a dark shade of brown just because he appeared so in one ferry scene" is ridiculous and you guys SUCK AT INVESTIGATING OR ANALYSING ANYTHING OBJECTIVELY. BYE. I'm ANGRY.
