Yup, and Blade Runner (Do Androids dream of electric Sheep), and Ubik, And a stack of other awesome books. But I remember that Minority Report was just a short story. And the movie Impostor was also based on a short story.

Some of you probably saw the trailer already. It looks very action/mainstream, but if anybody has seen even parts of the series that aired on Fox, this might be of special interest for you.

I think it's worth reviving this thread for this movie:

Strings. It's a Danish movie and I think it looks amazing (don't worry, the trailer is in english).

Hey dark, there's a new imdb tag now thanks to Muerte so you can type [ imdb]MirrorMask[/imdb] or [ imdb=tt0366780]MirrorMask[/imdb]. (without the spaces in the tags of course)

[edit] Whoa, MirrorMask looks amazing. Looking forward then!

Mirror Mask is finaly reaching more US cinemas, after its limited release a few months back. Coverage is still not as good as it should be though.

New Trailer:

SuperMan Teaser ~ Dosnt look that bad, but I hate that plasticy logo.

In other news it seems Nintendo is still in a slow process of planning films of Metroid, with a Zelda and Mario film to follow.

Metroid was at one point attached to Dark City director Alex Piovas, but the project went dead about a year back. (when Metroid Echoes failed to sale nearly as many copys as Metroid Prime, basicaly)
Personaly, its going to be very hard to make a Metroid film that dosnt come accross as a Aliens rip-off.
Zelda will be just hard to make period...live action would require far too much of a budget, so it would probably be CGI.
Dunno what they want to do about Mario...I probably and one of the few people that loved the chessyness of the last film, and wouldnt mind a straight sequal
But more likely, they are just looking at makeing a feature cell-animation or such.
So I am kinda skeptical of any Nintendo films to be honest.

The Zelda and Mario movies weren't certain yet I believe. Anyway, I think it's sad they make movies out of those games. They just try to make money out of a great game and I don't believe they really care about how the fans think about it.

I'm quite amazed that this was revealed in the mexican Club Nintendo. It's just like with Twilight Princess. Nobody saw anything about it for several months, and then suddenly, totally new info and images appeared in a spanish gaming magazine.

I don't think Metroid is suited for the silver-screen. One of the great things about the (Prime at least) games, is the solitary feeling you get because there are so many details on the planets, but no intelligent life (that doesn't want to kill you).

Zelda would be great for as a movie. The story is very open to interpretation, as it can be seen in Wind Waker, Awakening, Majora and I also think in Twilight.
Concerning the way it should be made:
- Classical animtation: There is something very personnal about hand drawn art, that really makes it special. All I can say is that want Studio Ghibli to make it. They would make it look great, keep the zelda feeling, give it the matureness/respect/seriousnes that we all want. By that I mean, we won't get some stupid non-violent, cliché good-vs-evil-and-that-is-it story.
-CG: Resently I've become very fond of CG animation. But I'm sad that almost everything looks very much alike. It would be great to see Zelda being the story that proves that CG isn't just Dreamworks movies.
Live-action: Well, first of all we need to kill Uwe Boll to make sure he doesn't go any further. Second, it would perhaps be thought of as too much of a LoTR rip-off, but I can't shake the feeling that, that wouldn't such a bad thing. Personally, I would very much like to see a really realistic version of Link (only in the live-action). Does anyone have a realistic picture of Link ?(No manga eyes).

Exactly.
How do you make a film when theres no one to talk too?
Samus could talk to herself, or get a wacky side-kick.
Neither is going to go down very well

The thing is, lots of fans of the games DO want movies.
They dont think about how it would work, they just assume a cool movie could be made based on their game.
Theres plenty of games that could make good movies. Metroid just isnt one of them. Likewise for Mario.
(allthough...a cartoon series in the style of "Superstar Saga" could work)

True. I have nothing against the Pixar/Dreamworks cartoon-with-shade style 3D, but the potential isnt being explored.

How about:

Also look at films like Sin City, or "A Scanner Darkly".

We are only just starting to explore the potential for non-realistic styles.
I hope a Zelda film would be CG animated but in a very artistic way.

I just did some quick alterations to a rather low quality screengrab:

I think zelda could be done in an arty CG style such as this (but obviously much better)

I don't know. Samus going crazy sounds kinda cool.

Cool screens, but maybe just a tad too insane.

Well Xavier tends to be quite epic when he gets into his monologues

I'm sure I'm gonna love this movie. And it premieres and a most glorious day.

From the trailer yes.
But the previous films were quite slowly paced, allowing time for charecter development.
Personaly though, its about time they did a more "thinking ahead" to the Xmen films. Theres a lot of comic ground to cover, and it dosnt make sense to keep doing things on a film-by-film base's.

I would have to say that Spoiler:
killing Jean, to prepare for Phoenix
is thinking ahead.

I was thinking more perhaps they should have already laid the groundwork for the sentinels, or any other number of small things.
The films are successfull enough now...I dont think they should fear not having total closure at the end of each film.
