yeah , its worth checking out the pilot at least

Sense8 Christmass Special - Like series one, fairly slow paced. Also you could remove like, half hour, of sex scenes. Yes its a import theme of the show...but you dont need to make porn here :P
I still enjoy it though. Its different, the directing is great. Core concept holds out. Maybe the society sexual repression themes gets a bit heavy handed. Just sometimes a little more plot vs montages please!

Legion 1x07 - I'm very, very impressed. Wow. This thing, the tv show called Legion, is an *outstandingly* well executed manifestation of the product of a mind that's not only creative and connected to its innermost pathways, but also creates naturally and sincerely in structures that makes sense as a story with its own functional reality. And while it may sound as if I'm talking about characters in the story itself I really am talking about the creators. At least that's the impression I got. It's just so true... nothing is phony. So many layers. It's fascinating and it's just genius. I've never seen anything that can match it for what it excels at. So glad it's already been renewed.

A few episodes behind here.
Atresica points out it feels like watching a music video rather then a tv show. A stream of creative imagery.
I was hesitant at Epp2/3 as I still wasn't sure if their was substance under what could have been the "gimmick" of the visuals. But by #4 I was sold.

I am actually really pleased a show like this even got made - not "toned down" by a network scared of scaring of the audience.
Either the network trusted the creators totally or it was really really messed up to start with.

Time After Time - S01E01 I often try shows with dumb premises. Because sometimes, just sometimes, they turn out entertaining.
This show is basically "HG Wells vs Jack The Ripper". Its actually based of a old film. Clearly the idea was so good it needed a series.
Watching this after Legion is like a mood wiplash. Its not that TimeAfterTime is awful so much as normal. Standard. Generic. Well, maybe not as generic as that MacGyver reboot (seriously that was super-predictable), but certainly TimeAfterTime screams "normal safe tv". Its a fish out of water guy dealing with the 21st century vs a clearly defined evil dude.
I think the only thing I really liked outright was HGWells portrayal as a super-idealist, disappointed we wernt yet in a technological utopia.

Legions of Tomorrow S2Ewhatever - See if you do dumb silly stuff, go all out. This show just had a episode about going back to WW1 to speak to JRR Toliken about where to get some of Jesus Christs blood.

Iron Fist - S01E01-6 - Vastly better then the reviews are saying, but that still only puts it upto "ok". Better then Luke Cage (mostly thanks to the less cartoony antagonists), but vastly inferior to Jessica Jones. (which is the best show in Netflixs little universe)

A Series of Unfortunate Events (the series): Just tried the first episode. Seems pretty good stuff, children's mystery thing. Never read the books.
I like the visual style/directing here, lots of nice visuals. With the narration and art style I am reminded of pushing daisy's. Script has some wit too it too.

Afraid I'm all full up on TV shows right now, any more and it would be a serious case of addiction.

But with this kind of quality going on, wow, it's all worth it. Dirk Gently, The 100, The Magicians, Legion, The Expanse, even the "lesser" shows suck as Rick and Morty, The Last Man on Earth, Silicon Valley... they're all just so good. I don't remember a time when TV was so good. (I mean, what's left of tv after filtering about 99.99% percent of it which is pure crap)

The Expanse 2x11 - That episode was just... pure delight. It's just SO GOOD. Not just one part of it, the whole episode, every scene, a fun, delightful, unpretentious perfection.

Maybe I'm over reacting. Probably. I'm just so glad I live in this time where such wondrous things exist in this form and I can just consume them. The scientific revolution is the most beautiful process to have happened in the history of our species... I don't understand how some people don't see that. How can religion and the glorification of ignorance thrive so much in the world? How come so many people just accept it? I can't understand it, I just can't...

It was a nice episode though.

I was looking forward for for your reply Kin Thanks. (my excuse is that it was 3AM and I was awake for almost two days straight.) Is that woman from games of thrones? Never watched that show.

So you watch The Expanse too?

Yes, and yes. It's a decent show. Not exactly the height of quality imo but I'm enjoying it.

Prison Break s06E01- Lots of late resurrections of TV recently. This one is particularly unlikely as the protagonist died. From two separate things.
Then again, this is the show were we saw someone beheaded and they came back.
The first two seasons of PB were excellent - particularly #2. Then it started shark jumping as you can probably tell from the above.
Anyway, see where this goes. Some shadowy people are manipulating our heroes! They just gave a villain a robot arm! And the dead guy somehow has ended up in a different prison with new tattoos!

Dimension 404 [1x01] - A completely ridiculous modern twist on Twilight Zone (or maybe more like a Black Mirror parody?). Surprisingly they didn't break the fourth wall. They actually went 40 minutes with the story and stuck with their premise to the end... which is kind of hilarious. I'm probably gonna watch more of this shit

Dimension 404 [1x02] - Ok, changed my mind. Not completely ridiculous, ridiculous in just the right amount. This is actual legitimate satire that doesn't break the fourth wall but also doesn't take itself too seriously.
Still, not anywhere near as good as Black Mirror.

Dimension 404 [1x03] - Ok, that was kinda golden. Well made and has an educational message that I can accept (but evidently I'm not strong enough to implement)
Dimension 404 is not comparable with Black Mirror, just a cool show on its own right.

I'll stop spamming this thread now since I appear to have caught up.

lol. I'll flag to give it a go.

Really I need more less serious stuff these days. There is all sorts of great shows, but most deserve full attention. Sometimes I just want something lighthearted or funny in the background while working. Problem is there doesnt seem much good comedy right now.

Legion Season1 - Yup. Awesome. Weird. Awesomely weird.
In terms of chucking out the rulebook plotwise it reminds me of Farscape, but even that was fairly traditional directing wise. This has both weird directing and plotting. Which is great.
Little bits are nice too; like putting the end credit patterns on one of the medical machines.

Dimension 404 1x05 - Oh god, that was terrible. Was it was intentionally terrible? Maybe. Maybe partially. I'm not entirely sure. It was certainly unsettling in more than one aspect. But do I regret watching it..? Actually, I think I do. Terrible! *shudders*
Is it a stupid show for kids or a smart show pretending to be stupid? I can't seem to decide.

Do the writers change?
--
iZombie S03E01 - still the only thing to do with zombies I find entertaining.

Doctor Who S10E01 - Good enough for a "fresh start for new viewers" thingy, but not as good as the "11th Hour" which was the last real equivalent.

Nope, same writer. It doesn't feel like the writers changed either, it feels like the same person is writing it. It's just right on the border between "terrible" to "so terrible it's good".

Doctor Who is also in a way so terrible it's good. Haven't really watched it since season 3 though...

Well, with Doctor Who the writers do change and it effects quite a lot so that's why I ask.

You should pick it up again though from Season 5 though, as the main writer changed then and I think he is much better. Lots dont like him, but he is certainly more to my taste (long proper story arcs over the seasons rather then just "magic words showing up" which the other guy did). Better resolutions. Tends towards more sci-fi/time-travel/crazy shit, rather then "using the premise to tell a story in a random historic setting with a monster" which can get dull after awhile.

Theres some genuine great episodes. I admit more "great silly" and just a few "great serious". But still, better then so-bad-its-good.
Then again, there's also episodes so-bad-it-swings-around-and-comes-right-around-to-bad again. I mean, really, really bad. So best use a best-of guide. Or avoid anything to do with a moon thats a egg. God that was a annoying episode.

Maybe I shall give Dr. Who another chance one day.

Dimension 404 [1x06] - Episode about a girl named Speedrun. That episode was ingenious! So good! Very insightful and creative. I don't usually like shows that have clear educational messages, but this show does it well. If you're gonna watch the show, just skip episodes 4 and 5, they suck. Watch episodes 1, 2, 3 and 6, in any order you like, they aren't related to each other in any way.

Well, if you run out of other horror/concept stuff.
What I like about Who is while there is a lot of anthology/horror/sci-fi stuff out there, its 90% cynical. I mean, not bad, but cynical. Black Mirror doesn't exactly cheer you up. Its not the point.
Dr Who has a idealism though that I like and I need from time to time. Its just a shame the actual story's arnt always that good.
The last epp for example. Standard monster stuff. Rather old fashion.
But in it was a phrase measuring a species progress by how much it values the life of its lowliest......or something close. I really liked that.

MS3TK - S11 Never saw the original, but seen a lot of webshows taking inspiration. Take a old crappy film, get a few people to riff over it - framing the whole exercise itself in chessy sci-set with a few sketches.
While not all jokes hit - in fact most dont - it doesn't matter as they come in so thick and fast it stays entertaining.
Netflix Win.

Sense8 S2E1-2 - Great high-paced start to the new season.
Netflix Win.

Riverdale S01- urh. Dont bother. I admire the risk they took with the crazy origin of the show and the direction they took. They also do a good job making a single murder mystery with a large cast of varying motivation characters work.
Ultimately though its just not interesting enough. It also particularly fails at times when characters loss all agency just to make the plot work. Only happens a few times, but by god its dumb.
Netflix fail.

I've never seen the show, but I've read both Dirk Gently books. Anyway, I think that The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy is better (written by the same guy (also, if you do look into H2G2 please don't watch them, read them or listen to the radio versions)).

Darkf - Thanks for the recommandations/warnings.

39 - I did read the HG2G books. Yes, the movie adaptations were lame. On the other hand Dirk Gently on tv is delightful. Give it a try.
