The Random Review Show

The 4th episode of our random review show is online

http://randomreviewshow.com/index.html

This one focus's on Penumbra and horror games in general.
I dont think it came out quite as good as our episode on 3rd episodes, but we did learn a lot more doing the special effects this time.

This epp also took far longer then expected to make. We hope the next episodes will come quicker

I like the points you bring up and the subjects you guys always explore. The humour is pretty good in some spots as well. I laughed out loud at the fake Dalai Lama quote.

Otherwise all of my criticism is the same as before: I feel there's an overall lack of coherence in the narrative as a whole. I think the presentations could be tighter and would benefit from being considerably shorter. I recommend shortening your time limit to ten minutes for the next ep. You might be surprised at the results.

P.S. You might already know this but your post-credit short has no sound.

P.P.S. I love the 25th Anniversary Metroid tribute

5th episode of our show is online;

http://randomreviewshow.com/index.html#5

Due to overwhelming feedback, we are making them shorter, and more focused.
Next epp shouldn't take long either.

We also redid the website so it wasn't depressing grey anymore :P
(Chrome doesn't seem to handle css gradients very well though - looks rather low colour palette on that browser)

There is a limit 15 mimutes. Sometimes they raise the limit but I havnt worked out what qualifies you for it.
My personal account doesn't have a limit but the reviewshow account I made does.

The other problem is they are more fussy over overwrite - their automated system has no concept of fair use. The ending gags too the show (which I did upload to youtube), two got blocked due to license issues!

Makes me wonder if they even get rickrolled down there. Since yt seemingly marked it as a Rick Astley clip. As for clip lenght. I think it's either about numbers of views or the number of clips? Makes me wonder if you can get there faster with uploading some private videos. My time became unrestricted before I could test that. But indeed emailing might help too. HEhe, some people are even uploading 10 hour versions of things: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zHU2RlSCdxU

Yeah, there was the complete first season of MyLittlePony on there at one point in one video :P

That could be it - maybe youtube licensed that song in all territories except australia?
Youtube once rickrolled the wholee site on April fools, so they must have had some license deal.

Just watched a few episodes and/or parts of them for the first time.

Well.

I think it's a really nice effort, you have some really good jokes, many of them came completely unexpected and gave me a big grin.

However, I do have to agree with some general criticisms out there *ahem*, so here are some things you probably should work on, and the show will become very much entertaining in my opinion:

- They need to be shorter. That doesn't mean cutting out parts of the show for the sake of not boring people, instead, just have a more concise, precise and faster editing, and take a sequence or two away.

- As a sound design/audio post-production professional, it lead me to complete frustration everything related to it's sound. I think bigger attention is needed in this part. Nicer fades in and outs of background tracks, overall peak level limiting (so I don't need to turn up and down the volume all the time, there are plenty of free plugins for that), and preferably use the best mic you have for any voice narration at ALL times; many jokes almost got lost because of poor mic's, and for me who is not a native in the english language it was particularly hard to figure out, so a clearer quality is a must at all times unless you really must speak in a place where you cannot have access to such mic.

Other than this I like the overall "amateur 90's show" feel it has, whether that's intentional or not (well the show's logo kind of gives it away).
I have nothing against unprofessional looking shows on purpose, but it does need some refinement.

You have good ideas there, good jokes, but it's hard to enjoy them with the unpolished parts in between.

Good luck.

PS: the dalai lama joke in ep #4 was genius.

Thanks for the feedback.

Your criticism is 100% fair, and is really appreciated.

Neither of us is audio experts by a long shot, so we have a lot to learn. We have got a (marginaly) better mic now so they might improve - and we will look into peak level limiting. We did try to get the audio all on the same level - but mostly by just manualy changing track levels while editing. Not so good.

As for speed, yes, we will try to be more concise. Next epps will be more like 10minutes rather then half hour. We didnt really aim for any particular time while doing them, they just come out a bit quicker so I hope that means we are being more concise.

As for the titles, yeah, the logo is a complete rip-off from the 90s Xmen cartoon

Oh and an important audio thing I forgot to mention: always balance it in the middle/center ! Unless you intentionally want to put it right/left because something is either coming from the right/left part of the screen, it should be in the middle because it can be a big annoyance listen to voices on only one side if you're watching useing earphones (like I always do).

6th episode online:
http://blip.tv/random-review-show

Quote:
In this episode we take a look at smartphones. Particularly, we compare the HTC Legend, an oldie, to the current market leader.
Expect some scenes of sillyness. Special Effects. And some British humour.

I think we got it more concise and (11mins) the sound is a little better but still needs a lot of work (this was filmed before we got any new mic, its just taken a long timeto edit)

Haven't updated the main site yet as having ftp trouble atm, so I liked straight to the blip list.

Loved it, I saw the first episode and begun watching this one without much conviction, it's awesome ! Presenting the apps of a phone in such a way... Truly great !

A bug I noticed, two texts are overlapping at the end of the credits.

I think we are getting better. Not sure what will be in the next epp, maybe a mix of things like the first epp only sticking to the more concise format.

I want a RRS featuring FPS games, with a special review for TFC compared to other multiplayer alikes.

PS: Gonna watch later this new ep!

Not sure we can do that, I dont play many FPSs, and while Bertine does, its more single-player thats her thing.

Hope you enjoy.

Well well well, , made me chuckle several times.

Damn, Bertine was indeed hitting the pinnacle of her coolness all so hot and Trinity-like at the end. Could've put MOAR explosions, though - like, real real big ones the kind you see in spy movies and mission impossible alikes.

I didn't know about that game, boy and his blob. Looks cute indeed. I might as well give it a try, just to appreciate the graphics. This kind of gameplay - interacting with blogs or bubbles (like in Soul Bubbles) seem to me the new path platformers are taking nowadays, as a way to bring back interest to a linear genre.

PS: Oh and I've lol'd at the hugging part! Now I feel like having a hug, and there's noone around to do that for me... curse you!
