Even if Italy didnt deserve to win, the fact is they won. France played better tbh, far far better (at times). I think they just lost too many good chances. But the Italians did too. Overall i dont think its fair to say Italy played badly. Both teams were equivilants in the match, penalty shoot outs dont proove skill.

Poor Zidane...

Yes, I almost felt bad for the Italians because here was a tournament that had been going on for over a month and the team that came out victorious got less publicity than the sad bloak who tackled one of its teammates.

Kobold - That wasnt my fucking point. Seriously if you dont understand what im saying, just dont comment.

Lightwing - That sad bloak was (apparently) called a "dirty terrorist". You know what, id have rathered Zidane just ingored him, played and won, than react that way, but seeing as he did decide to go violent, whats sad is that he only headbutted the italian player. Zidane shouldn't have to deal with such degrading comments because he is of Arab origin.

And you know why Zidane gets more recognition? Because he's worth more than the Italian team. Lets face it, he's a legend on his own. And Italy flooked the world cup, winning by a stinking penalty shoot out, that in my honest opinion is the sadest way to become the "world" champions. Every commentator on TV (atleast here in the Arab world) commented the French playing was stronger than the Italian playing (atleast in the second half).

Did Zidane respond to this incident yet? I'm really curious what he has to say.

See, THAT I don't understand. He's a white guy and it would seem people will pick any racial slurs against anybody these days. It was obviously a way to get Zidane pissed and it worked.

As much as I would want to feel badly for him, I can't. He let down his team, there's little excuse for that. I'm glad that the Italian guy got hit in the chest for such a remark, but as you said, Zidane should have saved it.

I rather hope that despite his announcement of "retirement," that he comes back and tries to end his career better.

There's not a lot of things to say, Materazzy had injured him on her mother or sister or on the fact that he's a terrorist...
His reaction was normal, I don't understand why everybody are chocked about his behaviour, it's only the answer, you all seem to not have been chocked by what materazzi said, did you watch the match men ?!
Don't you see that Zidane has shaken his hand with materazzi and was running slowly with a little smile towards his team, then suddenly, he came back on materazzi and boom. It was justified.
Did you see a bad act of Zidane in this worldcup before the final ?
People has just looked at this headbutt but no one had tried to understand why, German's journalist has assassinated Zidane, but they forget all what he does in this worldcup, they are jealous...
He is the best player of the world and will stay in our hearts forever.

It doesn't matter what he called him, he should have ignored him. Even if he wants to use violence, he'd better finish the game and deal with him later.
But ofcourse Zidane didn't think at that moment, and acted on the spot because he was furious. He should be in control on himself..
FIFA should act if it will be proven that Materazzi provokate him on purpose.(on something serious..)

I changed my opinion; i think materazzi insulted zidane cos he knew he would have acted like that and would have been kicked from the game.

I totally agree with Lightwing, I want Zidane to return and end his carreer in a better manner. He deserves to be remembered in better light.

No that would be lame, ending it with the World Cup is ok. And he will be remembered as a genius anyway, but winning the world cup is the different between being a great player and being one of the top 3. That goal he can't achieve now.

news said it went like this:
materazzi was pulling zidane's shirt
zidane said "If you want my shirt i can give it to you at the end of the match"
materazzi said "Spare it to cover that bi- of your sister"
*headbutt*

if it really went like this then i regret saying those things about zidane

I expected that the remark had to do something about his family (and it hasn't been confirmed exactly what was said). But as I said before, it's still no excuse.

I've heard over the News that FIFA is going to conduct some sort of an invistigation that might even lead (in an extreme case) to Italy loosing the World Cup. WTF? I mean, granted the loss of a championship title is very slim, it still boggles the mind as to why they need an investigation. I suppose everybody just wants cheap drama.

- StreGGy: Actually, Materazzi specifically said that he did NOT insult Zidane's mother OR family. So I don't think that Materazzi actually said that about Zidane's sister.

Actually he said something racist about zidane's mother giving birth to a terrorist.
But this doesn't make zidane's behaviour forgivable.
This just ruins the match.

Here's a pretty wacky secret: Zidane's sending off had absolutely nothing to do with the progress of the match in the last 10 minutes. France continued attacking, Italy continued doing nothing, and the match would have probably gone to penalties anyway.

According to Zidane, he insulted both his mother and sister. And I would rather believe what Zidane says than a nutcase like Materazzi.

The reason why Italy may lose the World Cup, is that people claim the 4th referee saw the incdient @ tv, and ordered for the red card. According to FIFA laws, it is forbidden to judge according to TV, and if all referee's indeed didn't see the incident real-time, they had no right to give him a red card..which could have altered the game, meaning - rematch.
I doubt FIFA will want it, it'll be prolly shut down because lack of evidence of the 4th referee actions.
