I think small changes are okay (ex. SGK's change) but full on changes can be jarring. If name changes are going to be permitted, I don't think we need to delete posts or a users history, but I would appreciate it if that user would be required to have their user message/status under their avatar list their old username (Ex. "Formerly: Frank"). Perhaps for a lengthy period as well. Personally, I think name changes should be very rare. People develop connections to a usernames/personas as this is not real life meeting. I'm sure many identify Morshem with the robot owl. I know I do.

I know this information is displayed on the user's profile page, but I think there would be less confusion if it was in a more prominent place.
This^

Can't mods have a compromise where users former names are displayed for a number of months as an obligation, where non compliance reverts them back.

Hah, I never realized that till JJ pointed that out in a recentish thread.

In future I'll just lock the user titles after I set them.

Ok, that be nice.
A namechange shouldn't be taken lightly after all. Not every site allows it.

That's fine. But for how long? Hopefully not permanently..

Oh and btw, Axx.. I never said the world revolved around me. It just made sense to me that after you talk mass crap about me that you start more shit about name changes coincidentally, right after I change my name..

Seriously, can the drama please stop? I feel like no matter what thread I go into these days, it's like some sad middle school breakup scene.

There wouldn't be any drama if your boyfriend didn't act like he was still in middle school.

It's that cartoon from CN, back in those days.
When I am Weasel and Wacky Races were still popular.

One of the guys never wears any pants, some weird red skinned guy, I believe he thinks he's the devil or something. Or he is and is just too stupid himself. But anyway, he's not wearing any pants either

that associative mind of mine... weird thing that is.

Never heard of either of those shows either.

But I haven't had cartoon network in 10 years. I only watch it when I'm back in Chicago. And that's only to watch stuff like, Robot Chicken, Family Guy, and American Dad type stuff at 2:00AM lol

Not heard of even Dexter's Lab, The Powerpuff Girls or Johnny Bravo? Or Johnny Quest? And what about Tom and Jerry? Some of the more popular ones than the above.
Those were the times

Yeah I remember those. They played back when I was a kid.

I liked Powerpuff Girls. Buttercup was so badass. she was my favorite.

I always personalised with Blossom, because of her responsible behavior over the others, but I loved Bubbles. Really sweet. Buttercup little spirited fighter. Good to have, not really pleasant as girlfriend.

At the time I was more like Dexter though. Like, I invented Monkey and Mojo-Jojo, two super heros. Well, super anyway.

I don't remember a whole lot of the shows unfortunately.

I still watch Spongebob when I catch it though. (Although its Nickelodeon)

No, a length of time between one month and "when I can be bothered, remember, or the person nags me enough via PM"
Then a bit more

Might it not be easier if the "Previously known as" bit was a separate field to the user subtitle? Like next to the join date, location and postcount. Then you can leave it permanently and don't have to technically bother yourself with the length of time it should remain.

Sounds do-able

Wouldnt DF or El have to do a lot of work to add that though?

Plus, if someone changes their name multiple times over years then it would take up a lot of space.

No, I don't think so. The information is already there on the profile, in only requires actually displaying it in the user info. And only the latest change, the others could be put behind a link if really needed as well. Unless the board mechanics are Joomla-like, this should not take more than a few minutes of work.

Nah. The user title isn't exactly 'meaningful content' anyways since we're all so far past the original mandatory titles and those post counts that it's pretty much a place for free expression. I'd say having to bear that temporary mark as the price for a name change is sufficient.
