Elite Dangerious, please help :~

The Elite dangerous kickstarter needs a little help in its last week or so:
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...lite-dangerous

I am really keen to get this game funded as :

a) I am a massive fan of space sims.

b) Procedural technology is still wayyyyyy underused in games.

Elite, the first Elite released on the BBC computer introduced a whole universe to explorer freely, at a time when most games still gave you 3 lives and a highscore.
It essentially invented the idea of a "sandbox" game. In fact, it was so different too games at the time that no games publisher wanted to touch it. Acorn eventually published it, and they never published a game before.

A new modern Elite could bring the same huge leap in gaming tech. A whole simulated universe. Its unlikely the game will be perfect by a long shot, but it will be hugely ambitious compared to current games - and should be encouraged.

While at first they "merely" want to give a explorable galaxy in real scale, they are building it so planets can be explored too, with cities and wildlife.
The ships arnt just flying models too - you will be able to sneak on board the spaceships and explore as well as flying them around.

Theres more videos and information here:
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...lite-dangerous

So please, chuck a little bit of money at the project

Come on folks, this is a whole universe to explore/trade/fight/mine in! Make a old space game nut happy :P
The video clips they showed of flying into gas giants to scope up fuel looked fantastic.
Multiplayer online dogfights, as well as it all being single player if you want.

They are at £987,010 now, but only 8 days left.

Why do they make it so complicated to pay ? They are the ones getting money...

On the second look, this does seem interesting...

Complex? They do accept PayPal too if its a problem, but I never liked paypal much.

Anyway, they broke $1m, so I think they will make it...just.

Sorry, can't yet transfer money online for the same reasons that prevented me from buying LBAs from gog.

It's a nice idea.
I am a bit worried however to the massive amount of alienation it will provide, though.
It's like a whole new level of hooking people into addiction, this time the infinite is the limit.

Not to mention all the annoying "use real life money to buy virtual things if you reeeeeally want to have fun with this game" system every goddamn multiplayer game has nowadays.

sgk: Think of it this way: it's like a message in a bottle. In our world, we put a message inside a bottle to protect it while it travels through the oceans to reach some other island. In other worlds, they put a message inside an asteroid to protect it while it travels through space to reach some other planet. In this case it is a gift, a guitar, rather than just a message.

That sucks, but I dont think have that - at least haven't announced that yet if they do.
They do have a few different starting equipment though, based on how much you bid.

The only actual DLC they have mentioned though is "expansions" that normally mean proper new content (ie, new gameplay). Probably they are doing that because $1.25m isnt that much money to make this sort of game.

From the FAQ:

Quote:
option for permanent offline single player

OR

synced single player - limited group multiplayer - unlimited multiplayer

The last 3 share the same universe, so what happens in SSP, LGMP or ULMP affects the other 2 - BUT in SSP you are the only PC and in LGMP you only play with people you want to - so no griefing

From their Q&A on Reddit - forum Galaxy anyone?

Not so keen on mass multiplayer with the world, but exploring a galaxy with mbn members would be nice
