Jack is the only non mod on the forums I consider worthy of the title of bieng given modship, shame he dose not want it.

I am against anyone getting it, except Jack. The only one besides dark flame that can get stuff doen this form and stay neutral at the same time, in the case of a fight.

Thanks Twinsan, this means a lot to me
If at some point I'm given something I didn't ask for, I wouldn't wish it away though. I'm already a stationary mod after all.

I haven't voted in the poll btw, because, no offence rex, I don't know you well. Maybe you were more active before I came here, or I just haven't read the threads you're active in. Also, I didn't think this thread was serious at first, because it isn't appreciated asking for modship. So if DF's fine with it, fine with me.

I chose to abstain. Nothing against you Rex, it's just that I don't think you are neutral enough, nor active enough lately to make a good mod. If more mods are needed, Jack indeed seems like a good candidate.

Jack, of all people? Seriously? He's aggression-intolerant. He may be a suitable mod for a wiki subforum, but I can't imagine him solving member conflicts gracefully.

Rex, on the other hand, is one of the oldest and sanest members here. And quite active one, too. While he may not post often, he keeps track of the overall forum situation. He might refrain from posting when there isn't anything worthwhile to say, but he's here almost every day.

If by Jack is meant J_McKalling, I wholeheartedly agree with him as a moderator.

Rex_Hollywood though is a no. He has been on my own IRC network and channel not long ago and has trolled me together with Elliptic and Anakin. I don't think that makes him good being a moderator.

I wouldn't mind Lenny (Rex, Solidflam, what have you) being a moderator, he's not stuck up, is serious when the need arises, and definitely has seniority over all these, these new people I haven't really heard of.

Not super mod tho. There needs to be some career path damn you!

Read: Lenny is Jasiek's friend from #lba so he's good for moderator. Those new people are not, so they are bad for moderator. Right?

In any case, Ratchet for moderator!
Yes we can! Forward!

For what it's worth, if we are going to have these mod discussions come up, can we at least have legitimate polls with yes/no/abstain?

Second, has El/DF (the admins) weighed on yet on whether they think adding more mod(s) is necessary? Not trying to derail the train here, I just think it's worth finding out if your efforts are for naught.

As El has said before, they don't take mod requests, and those of us around long enough know that these sort of things rarely generate results.

I'd say it's a good thing, popularity isn't what makes a good mod.

The truth is that people are not robots, so to suggest that a moderator would require perfect judgement and to be completely impartial is ridiculous. We all have our friends and groups of people we interact with slightly more than others on this forum, and to take their side slightly is natural. When you're not a moderator this doesn't matter, but once you are put in that position to moderate the forums, you adapt.

While some people have casually mentioned past negative experiences on IRC as a reason for voting against Lenny (Rex), the simple fact is that Lenny himself is not one to bully or harass anyone at all, and when the situation calls for it he can be perfectly serious and balanced in his opinions. He is very active and reads (almost everything); I talk to him almost daily and he knows what is going on in the forums, even though he may not post a lot, and has good/well thought-out opinions on things people say.

It's not for any of us to decide but I have no idea why people feel the need to bring up other potential moderators. There are obviously plenty of great members here that could do the job well, but this thread is just about one of those members.

A legitimate poll, and several candidates, if mods are actually needed... Personally I don't care, if you ask me, I'm in favor of relative anarchy. I don't like posts being deleted, even if they are offensive. I wouldn't mind if there were no mods at all.

Rex might not be the one to bully or harass, but Anakin is one of those, and he is the one starting this thread and campaign. That makes me feel a little uncomfortable. If Rex has "good/well thought-out opinions on things people say", why doesn't he express them here then? Why stay in the dark? If he has time for moderating, surely he must have time for posting...

Why should someone need to comment every little opinion they have? A good moderator is not someone that spreads their own thoughts around the forum constantly getting all the attention, it's someone who pays attention to all the details to make an informed judgement on a situation. It doesn't require very much posting at all.

This is pretty close to my feelings right now as well, although I think right now we have a good balance (imho).

In Rex's case, most of us oldbies know of him, his personality, etc. But for those who are new, they likely do not know him at all.

Again, I'm not really a fan of this process in general, but I can see why an active poster would be a minimum requirement, as it's the only thing to judge by for most members. I'm not disagreeing with you, I'm just trying to point out the other side of the argument.

Good point DJ, if they don't post very much then you can't make much of an opinion about them. However, my comment was only a response to Link's suggestion that Lenny should post his opinions on the forum if he is reading threads, which I disagree with. I read much more than I post.

REX FOR ADMIN !

Spoiler:

Because she's telling you so!

I mean, look at DAT LEGS, how can one ignore what she has to say.

In other worlds, they put a message inside an asteroid to protect it while it travels through space to reach some other planet. In this case it is a gift, a guitar, rather than just a message.

And I was saying that, precisely for the reason DJ mentioned. It seems quite reasonable to expect a mod to have a certain presence in the forum. Would you choose a guy who lives in a foreign country, and only visits once in a while, for president?

The point is, there is no point. Which is a good point.

@Battler, aye they were referring to me, you may call me Jack.
@ambient: you're judging me on a conversation on the IRC, but I'm much different here. I like it you call me aggression-intolerant though, it's one of my personalities.

@DJ: I agree with you too. Right there in the rules section, El says quite literally that asking for midship is not appreciated. I'd like to know from the admins whether we need another mod, before I'd vote for anyone. Hence why I voted to abstain.
