24 hour fast

As I type, I am taking part in a 24-hour fast to raise money for my older sister to go to Nepal next year and work in an orphanage.
I am allowed to drink water, but nothing else.
No food, no fruit juice...
Until 9:00 am tomorrow morning.

So what's the longest time you've gone without food? This will be a record for me if I manage it!

I don't think it has ever been more than 16 hours, maybe 20 max.

I doubt if that's humanly possible...
A week, fine.

But they say you can last three weeks without food, three days without water, three minutes without oxygen.

So a month is pushing it.

It may be possible, but definately not adviseable.

Anyways, 24 hours is a good achievement, if you do it again you could try two days, but it's a bit of a shock to the system when it gets nothing for a whole day after usually three full meals (or whatever you have). You'll probably be more tired than anything else after you're done.

Anyway, I don't eat much. I think 24 won't be much problem for me at all.

If I would try not too eat for that long I would get the acid in my stomach to rage all over it's walls and raise higher causing pain...only regular small meals for me... crap :/

As long as you have water, I think humans don't really have to eat that much.

Well the act is merely a front. The people are paying so her sister can go work in that orphanage. The fast is just a way to get attention.

Well put.
The idea is that asking for charity seems almost rude, so you do a small task, something that will vaguely amuse people, and they'll sponsor you (probably out of pity ). The fast itself is almost done for fun! Who would know if you didn't do it?

I can't say I've ever been for more than 15 hours or so without food, if that. Except possibly when I've been ill.

Yeah, after a while your body starts decomposing muscle cells, doing permanent damage. Not good. But before that you will have several other nasty symptons due the lack of vitamins and such (scurvy anyone?)
Fasting while you're a minor (<18 years) should be done moderately not to affect growth by the way.

around 24-25 hours.

However a proper fast (no food or water, or anything else (including medicine injections) for 12-14 hours i do every year, 30 days a year, in ramadan. Its also pretty easy (a bit tiring though).

i dont think i've ever gone that long without food but i do from time to time eat like a few biscuits a day over a week or so...when im hungry and theres nothing in my kitchen that i like im to lazy to go out and buy something its more like 1 day i might eat like 6 meals or a full birthday cake and then not eat like anything the next day...i only eat when i actually have 2, i almost never eat for pleasure

and I was wondering why in the USA and the rest of Europe people are either too fat or too skinny Now seriously ... you can't even imagine how much damage you are doing to your stomach and to your entire body ... my advice to you is start having a healthy diet and do as much sport as possible

Quetch: what exactly is not too fat or too skinny? IMO what a lot of people consider 'too skinny' should be considered normal, it only isnt because of all the fat people making them look really really small

I've not eaten for about 24 or maybe a bit more, usually when I'm ill and cant be bothered to get out of bed to get food...
