Where is the gallic acid?
In LBA 2, having come back from Zeelich and needing to restore the neighbour's map so I can get my new level of magic, I went to the store and Keroaac's house. The gallic acid is not there any more. Is this a known glitch, and does anyone know where I can possibly get it or how best to proceed?

It's also available for sale at the next door bazaar, as far as I know. For like 30 kashes or something.
edit: oops, haven't noticed you wrote that you did look in the store. I don't know then. Use a savegame editor in case of emergency (in case there is one for LBA 2). |

Are you sure you haven't already got it or traded it for the key?
That's the kind of thing I would do. Like when I've got my phone in my hand and check to see if it's in my pocket. |

Also, are you sure you haven't already opened the passage in the sewers with the pyramid key before?

Yeah, I went back to the neighbour to check that I wasn't being stupid and I really haven't already given him the gallic acid. I too, thought it was entirely possible that I had already got it, but alas...
And I am unable to find an LBA2 Savegame editor. Rats!

OBras made a savegame editor for LBA2, but it doesn't work for me under Win7.

I'm running Vista and I get the error message: "Component 'Vertmenu.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid."

Hmm... Vertmenu.ocx is included with the savegame editor itself. Try running the program as administrator. If it doesn't work, open a new command line window, go to the directory of the program where Vertmenu.ocx is located and enter 'regsvr32 Vertmenu.ocx'.

I got it to run by changing the compatibility mode to Windows XP (service pack 3).
It's nice to learn about all these programs, by the way. Turns out Obras made some pretty good programs ![]() |

Works fine for me. Anyway, editing autosave should be enough, no?

Of course Obras's programs would work better if he hadn't programmed then in Visual Basic 6.

I ran as administrator and tried running in compatibility mode for Windows XP, but I'm now getting a different error about the file 'COMDLG32.OCX' not being correctly registered.

Download Comdlg32.ocx and place it in the program directory.

That's really just a sign of not having Visual Basic 6 runtime files installed properly. Which is no surprise, considering Visual Basic 6 had its high time during the days of Windows 98. (Check this technobabble.) The comdlg32.ocx file has to have been included with OBrasilo's download, or else it won't work. Do the same thing you did for the other ocx file.

But what I did for the other file was run as administrator. Actually just downloading it like Renesans said worked. Thank you all, though!

Aren't we trying to figure out what (bug) happened? I've not yet heard of the gallic acid bug, is it maybe some kind of event triggerorder mixup? Like going to Desert Island before you remove the storm or something (which would not be an example of such a bug)?
Because I would like to actually solve any such a problem without trying to "heal" it after it happened...

Nope, I don't think I did anything other than the way it was intended. I didn't go to Desert Island before removing the storm or anything like that. It was most strange not to find the gallic acid, although usually I had picked it up before going to Zeelich...

However, I do have encountered something previously, that relates to the issue. I have found out that if you possess an object in the same place as another object you're trying to get would be placed in, which can only happen if you use bugs, the second object will either not be allowed in your inventory or will completely overwrite the other object. I don't remember which, but it did bug. Now, the galic acid does have the same spot as another item.

It wasn't removed from my inventory I don't think, rather I hadn't picked it up as I usually would have when playing and it disappeared from the places it could be picked up from.

Are you sure the gallic acid disappeared from the scenes, or wasn't it there at first encounter?
Either way, the trigger must have been activated to let the game think you already have (used) it. This happens when you do, or (for some circumstances) when you did something you should have done later. However you say you didn't, so I can't explain why it happened or how. *Edit: Seeing you're not completely sure about anything, could you post a screen of your inventory, or a savegame so it can be tested? The first thing to understand a bug is to be able to reproduce it. Trying to find the circumstances you were in when this happened, we might see what went wrong. (hoping you didn't already correct the error with the savegame editor, you could do so later if this doesn't yield any result)

Heh, 14 years later, LBA still is a "science" to be carefully studied, and there still are new bugs to "research".
![]() I suggest a simpler method, perhaps loading an earlier savegame and trying another sequence/path?

If you don't want to know what caused this so it can be prevented later, then yeah, ignore it and do something else.
