The creators of Space Quest are making a new adventure through Kickstarter!

I thought some of you looking for a good science fiction comedy may be interested in this.

The original Space Quest games from Sierra On-Line were pretty amazing point and click adventure games and gave me plenty of laughs growing up spoofing famous sci-fi films and books and games.

Here's the link: http://tgakick.com

There's just under 72 hours left to get the game funded. I hope you guys can help out!

Their video won't work for me, it claims it requires Flash player. Is there a version of that video on YouTube?
What is Space Quest and why should I be interested?
There's a lot of money to be filled so best to give as much information as possible.

I am amazed that anyone does not know the Space Quest series...

On the contrary actually, those games are such classics that it should be you the user to go in shame to a wikipedia page!

Man they've got $438,184 out of 500k, and 56 hours to go, I hope they manage it... would be great to get some proper new adventure game!

This should be advertised on more prominent places than the MBN, I don't think it has gotten enough attention. Like, get Notch started with this, the guy donated $10,000 to the Humble Bundle.

I was about to blow out some money, then I realized they only accept Amazon US payments by credit card. Seriously, what is it with these website that have so much trouble with simple transfers?

-sigh-
Theres lots of "proper new" adventure games.

Check this site out:
http://www.adventuregamers.com/upcoming

The media loves to cover this stuff and doublefine and "classic" adventure game markers going on about how they want to bring back the genre, despite the fact they ignore people spending a lot of effort making tones of fresh games in the genre and have been for a long time.
Theres lots of stuff! Storywise the genre has never been richer either, a mix of very silly to very serious. Stylised to realistic. The point and click isn't dead, its just hidden in the corner behind GearsOfDuty.

Sadly though it seems adventure game fans are really just as brand-dependant as every other game genre fan

-sigh-
Oh, that reminds me, Secret Files 3 is out soon.....

However, it's different considering the people involved with these Kickstarters. Al Lowe, Tim Schafer, Ron Gilbert, Scott Murphy, Mark Crowe, Josh Mandel, Jane Jensen...

These are the veterans of the industry. Part of the reason I post this thread was because I one day hope, like the rest of us, of a Little Big Adventure 3 and it may come down to crowdsourcing.

Sure, and thats great - I got no objection to it on those grounds. Its a good funding method.

I just dont like people talking like there isn't already a lot of company's and individuals supporting the genre. Seems disrespectful
Also worth noting TellTaleGames was founded by ex-LucasArts staff after a Sam&Max sequel was cancelled.

I also, too a lesser extent, think the idea of "classic adventure" is over-rated. At least, point and click wise the genre hasn't changed in decades anyway :P

With Kickstarter in particular, Amazon is the only service that would allow payments at a set date. A crucial piece to how it works, if the game doesn't get full funding, nobody pays a thing. Imagine if the money was taken straight away and the nightmare it'd be dealing with the refunds.

But handing over your money to an America-based corporation means having no legal protection, especially as a foreigner.

But you do only hand it over once the project gets complete funding. If it gets funding but the product doesn't actually get made due to some catastrophe, that's it, it was a pledge, not a purchase. There's always going to be a risk to donating to starter projects.

The problem is that US companies like Amazon.com can just take my money and run. There's no legal system in place that would allow me to sue them properly.
