I'm using 56k modem, and it always takes some time for me to load [mbn] banner, so I tried convert it from GIF to PNG and it's kinda faster now...


My point is: is PNG better than GIF? because if it is, there is no more reason for using GIFs!

Uhm.. yes, PNG is indeed better then GIF, PNG is just like GIF build from "blocks" but PNG supports more colors and has a diffirent compression routine. Currently PNG viewing is somewhat limited, only one block is supported and transparent PNG images are not supported by most browsers.
PNG is in the highest compression level a bit smaller then GIF, diffirence is about 10%

I always use PNG's.
They can sapport Semi-Transparent colours as well, GIF's you have to dither to creat the same effect.

Yup... it is better, but rarely supported. We'll have to wait until all common browsers support it I guess...

Netscape 3+, Mozilla, MSIE 4+ support PNG, but only Mozilla realy supports PNG.
