Ah, advocating crime are we?

I'd still recommend getting a open-source / free software one, since it's better to start using a free program than getting reliable on a non-free one that you don't fully own yourself.

I would recommend the following IRC client for Windows users; Bersirc

From what I gather, you have to use cygwin with BitchX. So, irssi would be a better choice imho.

Well, not really. The program still fully works after 30 days. Just the popup is irritating.

If you use the program a lot though, it's worth the £5 or so the guy wants for it. Well worth the buy...

No, no, no, NO, no, no and NO!

It should be a crime to use xchat. If someone here has *nix, for gods sake use irssi.

irssi is stable and a good cluent, i use it almost always, but it's not good for unexpert people.

`mv -v /home/unexpert /home/expert`

It's better to use irssi, in any case. It's better to learn the hard way than taking a free ride and falling off halfway.
Now, I hope noone gets curious and tries xchat. ^^

Hope no one minds if I bump this, because it would be really nice if some of the newer members started visiting the channel as well, and I think many people may not have seen this thread! So I'll just draw a little attention over here.

Just read the first post guys, it's all explained very well.

No, not really.

I'll just make an home visit to any given person and shove down a milk carton into their throat. Why make such a big deal out of it, I mean, who would ever go through the obviously painstaking procedure of dematerializing some bloody milk and send it through TCP packets, over the bloody internet. Besides, it would probably require alot of software and hardware engineering before you'll be able to send milk which is not sour on arrival.

Not to mention that more than 50% of people are lactose intollerant, and to 70% of people that are no longer infants milk is no good. As for a good source of calcium for your bones, you'd be better off eating toothpaste, then drinking milk...

I can recommend chatzilla, it is as easy as can be, as clean as can be. However it's probably not written optimally, and a lot of other deficiencies I'm not aware of.

I used to use mIRC, but have switched to the Trillian client just because I'm on a bunch of different networks at once. Their IRC module is very basic and rudimentary, but it gets the job done, and has a simple interface. Its probably fine for users who just want to get on and talk...but for more advanced users, mIRC is the way to go.

Isn't trillian IRC only for private chats?, so you can't get in on rooms, such as #LBA

Yeah it's a bit weird, but I use Trillian when I go into #lba. So yes, you can get into the rooms.

I remember using Trillian for IRC before, just go onto the create accounts thing, choose IRC, server is irc.efnet.info for this one (I think), room is #lba. Simple.

No, it works. I've been on #lba many times through Trillian.

I'll have to make up a little FAQ/tutorial (if people want?). It can be a little difficult to set up in Trillian.
