Reference pictures for modelling

Reference pictures for modelling:

Will be posting reference pics for stuff so we're all on the same page regarding style.

So yeah, will probably make the machine guns a bit like this (excluding the camel).

Would like to make the motorcycle a bit like this (only yellowish):

Why not keeping the camel too? :P It`ll fit perfectly for Desert Island. ^_^

This is a picture I found long time ago. I think if using it as a base and adding some "mods" to it, it`ll be perfect for Baldino`s house. It was drawn by Alberd Robida for his book "Le Vingtième Siècle" (circa 1890).

I'm planning to add a similar mural on the Citadel, with Funfrock's face instead of Mussolini's (face it though, the two dudes are basically the same!) and the Ff logos instead of all the "SI"'s.

He's being a troll, whining about the wobbly end.

I got the wobbly filter idea from a fusion of two types of this mask, one with a hose and one with an attached filter that can get quite wobbly.

Yeah, I know this kind of masks. We have the same type in Bulgaria. They`re pretty old, but are OK for training. To be honest, I don`t know if they wobble at all. The rubber is soft, but the filter part is rather big and is being held by your chin when wearing your mask. It`ve been a long time since I wore such mask, but I don`t recall any memories of being wobbly (bearing in mind we`ve been also running when wearing the masks). If you think of it, it would be even unwanted effect, since this could knock off your teeth.
I could suggest something else - why not adding a hose, like the "Słoń" type? The hose is wobbly, and would be really effective if we have an animation of the hose is being disconnected, while a clone fights Twinsen. I imagine a small amount of steam coming out of the mask, when the house is broken and the clone suffocates, like he`s not breathing air. At a later phase of the game, when Twinsen has his saber, he could cut the hoses.

Cool, yeah!

I'll add a hose then, but I'll make it short and it will dangle on the hose (practical aspects aside it makes the soldiers a little bit comical -and that's how they where in LBA).

WELL...

I only have one "snout" bone there (from the rabibunnies) and I'd like to keep it as a single bone, so I figured instead of making it in a sack I'd rather make it on a short piece of pipe, so IT'S STILL WOBBLY, but, it's on a piece of pipe so it doesn't look as if the mask is bending too much.

Still, I wanted to be done with the model and I'm not that keen on making changes.

Wouldn`t it make the model look like more groboclone-ish?

Yeah I thought about that, it would need to be way shorter then a trunk.
In fact, the pipe would have to be maybe only twice , or three times longer then the connector that's already there. I'd like for the head bone to still catch the pipe up to it's middle, and the filter bone to get the rest.

I'm still reluctant to change it though... as I said, the soldiers are sort of clumsy and bumbling in the original game, and I value the looks and feel of a model greatly over how practical or impractical the feature is.
Remember the huge glass gas tank on the backs of the Beyond Good & Evil soldiers? How impractical was that? Yet no one really cared about that!

If it`s so hard to decide is it worth to change it or not, why not leaving it as is, but removing the wobbling at all? :P

Yep! I know this guy`s work and his work actually was a very big inspiration for the groboclone retexturing I made.

Well, I like the wobbling, so I came to two conclusions:

1) This being an open source project, so if anyone doesn't like something they can go into the file and change it.

2) I may tinker with the mask later on, but right now I'll leave it with the wobble as it is - since I think it's funny and clumsy and fits the characters.

And yeah, I've also saw the work of that guy - it looks really, really great.

On a different note, seeing the soldiers ingame I also think that the meters on their chest don't need to be animated, you can hardly see them anyway.
