Night

twinsun can have night...
both sides are illuminated
the only possible 'night' is hamalay shadows

If there are two 'suns', there wouldn't be any shadow from the Hamalayas either.

Refer to Darkflame's theory on this matter.

The theory basically is that the suns rotate a little around Twinsun's pole-pole axis and a fifth of the day is dark.
There's an animation somewhere. However, I'm not sure what to search for to find it in the forums.

*tries to resist* *tries to resist*
*spasim*

argg..ok then;

Basicaly, its possibly to have a brief night period because the planets rotation might be
out of sycn with its orbit.

How it could work from a stela perspective. (Two stars orbit brown dwalfs)
http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...rbit+lba&hl=en
What you see on the surface:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...15380610&hl=en

I know this are very old, shitty, 3d videos, but the animation in them is exactly the same. The camera is glued to a point on one of their surfaces.
(At the poles of the planet, of course, the sun never sets regardless. the camera here is just one side of the middle)

This is of course, just a fan theory. But it would give some possible to light variation and explain some of the images we see in the games intro pictures.

Sunsets and sunrise's on twinsun would be spectular, and if your on the tips of the Hamalayas, you should be able to see both at once!

I think there should be some light variation/day times in LBA 3. I would totally support this concept if LBA 3 gets made.

Dino-Fly, with this one sentence you simply destroyed... or rather annihilated the whole idea of this thread. ROFL

Would a brown dwarf have a strong enough pull for the suns to actually orbit around them?
Maybe if it was all a little further away so the planet couldn't really affect it.

That could be explained if we not take a brown dwarf as the object which the sun orbits around, but a small white dwarf, a dead star. Those have such a great mass, that it would be possible for them let the sun orbit around it.
The problem with that is, that white dwarfs are quite bright (not as much as a sun but still enough to light up a planet).

We probably will need some more time to solve this

I suppose if you can come up with another reasonable theory of orbit, it's easy enough to say things just work differently in the Twinsun universe...

Strange, I didn't imagined it at all like that, I always tought that it rotates around it's axis, a bit like that :

(not a good quality, I know)

We all thought so, but the fact, that there is day an night on some islands of twinsun let's us know that it's not as easy as that.

Mainly citaldel Island because there is a photo of the citadel island at night.
At lesat it looks like citadel island (look at the forum-theme "twinsun by night")

A white dwalf painting brown? :P

Well, basicaly, we need the heaviest non-light emiting stela object that wont collapse in on itself + the two smallest stars possible.

Short of mario-galaxy physics, this is a rather tall order, but I do think its just about possible.

Of course, my animation should be labled "not to scale"

Why not have something like a zeelichan planet/sun

Imagine we had a small white dwarf that is VERY heavy and light emiting but which is covered by a huge brown cloud of stellar dust, so that twinsun can't see any of it's light at all.
That would solve our situation pretty much wouldn't it?

Not a bad idea.
Allthough the interesting side-effect of that is that Twinsun would be getting most of its heat from a different place to its light.

Didn't we know that anyway?
Why would otherwise the desert island and the well of sendell (which seems also very warm) exactly at the poles?
Would all make sense for now

Not quite, because the heat source would be at 45degree's to the planet at either side, rather then at the poles themselfs, so it wouldnt quite be in the correct place.

So if we think there's a desert ring around the north pole (sendells well) that would mean that while the northern sun is rather cold but has a very hot white dwarf the southern sun is very hot but it's dwarf rather cold.

Strange, but sounds possible
