Realistic Quetches

I have been doing concept sketches of Zoe and have recently been told that The quetch characters are probably going to be... well humanized. I for one am against making the quetches more humanized because i think it would ruin the movie, i mean how would you like it if you went to watch the sequel to a movie you have been waiting for a long time to see, just to find out that your favourite character in it has been replaced by a different actor that looks nothing like the original? You'de be pissed off!
I think if we're going to make an LBA movie, we should make it similar to the game cinematics. I know that the The tools for making CGI's back in 1993 were primitive, but that does'nt mean we should go ahead and make it totally different and more human, just to prove were good modelers, we are, but instead we should focus on details alot more. I have done some sketches on quetches and i think that things like eyelids do need replacing because they do like a bit bad, and would'nt be very good for animation.

Uhm, that was never the intention
All we want is to 'update' them (in other words, smoothing the lining and transition from body parts)
Not to make them more human

Id like them to be realistic, but thats wayy different from being human.

Thing is, after thinking about it a lot...i dont really like the "sticking out eyes"...looks very crude in close up shots, imo.
I was edgeing towards having more human eyes (that is "inset" eyes)....but keeping the elongated head shape and of course the pony tails.

Yes, i know what you mean Darkflame, have you noticed that Quetches have no lower eyelids? or eyebrows? Well, they're not human so i guess it's artistic license.
So you want the eyes inside the head ay? Well i will do some sketches for you when i do Zoes body.
And i was also thinking, if you are going to do the main characters? Because if you do make them look really good, than you'de probably need to redo all of the other characters, unless they are made well, because do you think it would look proffesional if you see a high detail model made by you, talking with a very poor looking model made by a begginer modeler?

That's why everybody can download the models from the RMP to improve them, then the model could be improved by 10 people

Well, depends also how much and how close to the camera the other models get.
Im still learning myself, so i dont know how good the models will be when finnished.

I will model Twinsen, Zoe myself for sure.
Possibly Dinofly and Funfrock too.

Ok i just wanted to know what your intention's were to what the Quetches in detail would look like, i'll do some sketches for you of different looks of eye design when i can squeeze some free time out of my life. Probably 2 days from now.
And Darkflame, if you haven't seen it yet, did a sketch of the Quetch skull.

1st New sketch

Here is a sketch i did.
If you observe carefully, i made the eyelids more inset, and human, but i chose not to include lower eyelids as that would make it look too human. I can include them if you want, but since there are no lower eyelids in the games at all(as i have seen yet), and it would probably also look un-LBA'ish(i have done some rough sketches and have concluded that they look very unrealistic and high on drugs) I'll do some sketches for you soon to show you what i mean.

Nice design !

With a slightly thinner jaw it'd definitely make it

I think it looks really cool. Although a few things like the eye lashes look a bit like wires comming out the top of her eyelids. o.O If you're going for realism you should focus on the clothing as the general look of quetches shouldn't be changed too much. Twinsen's tunic as much as we all like cones needs some tailoring help. n.n

Thanks,
it was just a draft, it was mostly the left eye that the eyelashes looked bad. And Darkflame has a few tricks up his sleeves for clothing simulations.
We are trying not to change it too much, because if we do, when the movie is finished and you see it, you'll play LBA1&2 again and watch the movies and they'll look really bad. And you'll see the RMP as have lost the LBA atmosphere.

Yeah, you should deffinately not change it too much otherwise it would be a desaster. After trying to draw quetches myself once or twice I've noticed that the only way they really look good is how LBA made them. :/

Yeah, i did'nt even notice that LBA1&2 movies were that bad untill someone here (can't remember who) had to point out all the mistakes. But not everyone is a proffessional 3d modeler, i mean the average person would look at the LBA1 movies and think wow! look at how smooth they managed to model twinsens head like! Not knowing that is one of the easiest modeling jobs to do. So what ever pleases the eye will do!

Heh. At one stage I thought the graphics on LBA were ultimate. Although at the time I guess they were. The only time you can really notice mistakes in such things is when things like Final Fantasy who focus intently about the perfection of their graphics create a botch job of one creature or monster and it sticks out like a sore thumb. Concidering everything on the LBA video clips were of the same qualaty I never had a reason to complain.
