Sounds like a perfect adventure game soundtrack to me.

The guitar part is good. There's just a strange hiss noise when it comes in that ends abruptly when the guitar stops playing (you've used a noise gate?). Maybe a noise removal in the overrall guitar track would help, dunno. It is very unnoticable btw, most people wouldn't hear it.

Btw, Jesse, could you post us a picture of your workspace, y'know, your equipment and place you compose music in? I'd love to see that.

oh yeah I forgot the hiss. I don't have a good noise gater, I should look for it.
The hiss came back after I changed a few things, and I didn't notice it later anymore :\

Here you can watch me, I just decided to play a little improv for you on my own track 'Tearfall'

I thought you'd show yourself playing the guitar though, haha.

Speaking of music, in general... I think one way of acquiring a particular inspiration for a song is to stare/observe/admire something and imagine "what would be a fitting soundtrack for this? what sound does it evoke?" and then go on. It could be a painting, a place, a photo, an object, anything. Every such thing belongs to a certain style, and by composing something related to it, you are expanding it's projected universe here.

Sometimes I used to stare at the keyboard MIDI controller without knowing what to do with it (I am not trained in music theory regarding pianos and how to build scales in a piano keyboard), because within those 12 notes there are billions of combinations. But then, once you connect yourself to something, immediatly those possibilities are reduced to one specific thing, of which you can then build various tones from it and it is artful because it is coherent and consistent - like creating a color palette with different tones.

A visual example:

Hmm I don't really go 'let's focuss on spring' and then write a track about it spring or something likewise.
For me it is almost always music first and then later on it becomes clear to me what the song means (or not).

Basically music just pops up in my head and I write it down

Sometimes I will first start experimenting with a loop or a preset, or I will just twiddle some knobs. And then suddenly you know how it can go because I hear the possibilities. But it took years before I could hear it fluently.

I am not completely trained in classical theory, I had piano lessons for a year or so, but I do kow scales and what sounds good for me. In the video you see me playing in e-major most of the time. I make a mistake later on by playing the c# where I was supposed to play a C (i changed the chord to minor), but it was just improv while filming it with an Ipad.

I usually do that, too. In fact, I always just get the guitar and start strumming something without knowing where it'll go.

And this is usually the most natural way for most musicians to compose.

However, I was trying to show a different approach that might lead to different results.
