Rate 2dark here

= Good game.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ = "Meh.." game.
= Not really enjoyable game.

It's kind of funny if you think about it...

I really like the overall art style of the game, and love that Fred worked on the game. After having played his other games you can somewhat 'feel' everything that was put into the product - quite immersive if you ask me (especially with the LBA series).

I think in all honesty, the game (2dark) is a 50/50 - don't get me wrong by the way... I love to 2dark a lot (most likely because of Fred)! Perhaps that sounds hypocritical in itself... After awhile, it starts to feel dull. But, if you wait and come back to it, then it feels fresh (but I guess that's the case with most things).

So... All in all, it's a 50/50. But the fact that Fred made it makes it all the more better. Additionally, his Gloomy Voxel Editor is so awesome, definitely 10/10 for that one. One of the levels in the game with the 'adult' magazines was a bit too much for me though - skip that magazine whenever I play the game now (for my spiritual strength and realization that I'm 'off-limits' to that criteria (really caught me off guard and I feel uneasy)). Besides, I' preparing for a mission.

Yeah... In my honest opinion, pornography is pretty darn destructive, and must be avoided at all costs. I like women (a lot - I can draw them very well too), but there's a limit on everything.
If you think about it realistically, porn is just a drug... A pretty bad one too (all of that dopamine crap). Perhaps not for Reek though...

As human beings we've all got problems - no one is truly perfect. But, we can strive to become the better person tomorrow than we are today.

And hey, if your opinion is the exact opposite of mine, oh well.

Hopefully I'm understandable...

What'd you think about the game, SpaceGuitarist? What'd you give it?

I started playing it. It's been "nice" for as far as I've gotten. Haven't gotten far enough to really tell how good or meh it is.

I think it was a decent enough game. For the first few levels it was pretty enjoyable, then after a while it became kinda dull like Quetch said.

Yeah. Kind of unfortunate, really. When Fred was posting that there'd be more levels and serial killers I was expecting many more levels. At least 10 would've been better, but we're left with like 5 / 6... Something like that.
(sorry guys, hope that last bit about levels wasn't a spoiler)

From the beginning I should've picked a different Username... I should've done something far different than using the word 'Quetch' in it. By the way, don't get confused between Quetch and MrQuetch(me).

Perhaps I'll consider contacting the administrators at some point and getting it settled... (I've actually been thinking about it for a couple years now)

I'm thinking of a word that describes an artist and programmer in one, but not really sure.

Didn't play much. I can say I like it to play on the PS4 more than on PC.
Main thing I dislike is the gameover and checkpoints. Sometimes a small mistake is fatal, but overall it's a good game with a lot of action.

Ok, now that's a way to look at it. Perhaps it's better a PS4 game than PC. I don't have a PS4 nor Xbox 1, so this is what I'm with for right now.

Yes, sometimes I had to restart a several countless times until I got some more progress, but that seems to be a key point of the game I guess - especially for newer players.

They say that smoking is bad for you on the instructions / help page, and I thought they just meant real life (which they did). But, then I thought to myself, "Will that actually kill Mr. Smith?!".
Apparently, I've smoked (saved) the game several times and have been fine - he's not even that loud when he's gotta cough from it.

I've never smoked in life nor will I ever... So I think I'm well on my way.

Uh what??
I haven't played the game yet so this bit is kind of confusing to me, can you actually smoke in-game?

The only way to save the game is to smoke a cigarette. It cigarettes did that in real life I would probably be a heavy smoker. (never touched a cigarette nor will I ever as well!)

Oh, right. Hehe. Well... not so politically correct but original idea nevertheless. Fred is full of weird ideas since Alone In the Dark and those (up to this day) enigmatic puzzles with no head or tail of a logic. (never touched a cigarette either! nor will)

I seemed somewhat negative when I met you in the first place... I apologize...

But, this post has just earned my respect towards you. Thank you, Reek!
I've never heard something so meaningful and inspirational from you!

Everything (most other things) I've heard from you has been about criteria rather inappropriate in some way or another.

I never realized that you didn't smoke either!

May the Sendells be with you in your quest. (My emojis aren't working at the moment - not sure why)

WELL.

Finally got to play it. Just finished the first 2 levels.

Hmm.

I can't quite bother myself to detail all the why's it is not so appealing as it could be and everything it lacks... should suffice to say though that it is 8% of the greatness that was Alone In The Dark (damn, that game was so good). This voxel engine looks so good though, and the soundtrack is top notch and very much adequate... BUT as a game itself, in providing fun - it just doesn't make it, it promises to do so by giving a lot of elements, but then does not quite deliver it.

EDIT: Regarding level 2 did anyone try to...
Spoiler:

Deliver the cake thru the dumb waiter to Sylvia? I thought of doing this only after she was dead.

PHEW

I made it.

I finished the game.

All 3 possible endings (it's worth it).

It's rather exciting!!

So what can I say? I'd say the game still has many flaws, many inconveniences, many aspects that will annoy you, with repetition and bad AI situations (why isn't there a shortcut for reloading?), it could get better in many aspects - but after you get used to all of that, and brave onwards level 3 or 4 things start to get ENJOYABLE and you actually start caring for the plot and characters (unfortunately the game ends just then, when things start to get fun). Level 1 was a bad decision to start the game with because it is pretty dull, it should have been redesigned... if I wasn't so interested in it and just casually tried level 1 to see what the game is like I'd definitely stop playing it, whereas the last levels are really well thought-out.

To be fair, it has many positive things, I mean, you can really see A LOT of effort has been put into it, they were not lazy in doing this game, the artwork is well detailed, not to mention the lushful orchestral soundtrack. Rather, it seems they just took many bad decisions along the way in the game's mechanics and also parts of the plot (the excessive clichés that are simply not so funny even if it's meant to be a parody of the clichés themselves). I mean, this comes straight out of the creators of the LBA series (Fred AND Yael), the most original universe I have ever played on, every dialogue, species, places, items, etc. was filled up with wondrous creativity, intelligence and a certain charm and 2dark falls so short on this, everything is cheesy and stereotypical. The player is left unsure whether to take the game seriously or not (?). It is humorous but then it also tries to be scary, it is cartoonish but also gory. Maybe this is a new way of doing things but it just "doesn't feel right". The voxels engine is what makes the game shine out, keep it within Fred's trademark quality standards of innovation, so to say. I very much admired the modelling of some characters.

Then there's some inconsistency. The dialogues/clues sometimes contain the only piece of information that is vital to understand a very interesting part of the story (which is left unexplained most of the time), but then they can also be for the most part completely boring and useless to the game's plot. Sometimes you have an overload of items which you really don't need at all and then when you really need certain items they are impossible to find and that forces you to die-retry-die-retry breaking your fun and free falling into frustration. And... puzzles, so few of them... but you can't also go just blazing guns, so it's neither hardcore action nor a brainy kind of game... as for stealth - this they got right for the most part; the lighting system is a delight. BUT, when you're about to hit someone and that yellow glow doesn't show, you think, damn why is this so hard? if the enemy moves a milimeter you lose the yellow glow and it means reload the game again because Smith is pretty much useless in any real combat if he fails his sneak attack.

Conclusion...

It still "doesn't hold a candle" for Alone In The Dark. (pun intended)

Perhaps we just got off on the wrong hand in the beginning. If you're on my good side then I'll be on you're good side.

Again, my apologies. But thanks for the words. Have you played the game yet?

Maybe I'm a 'purist' or try to be as clean as possible, but I guess when I saw you make a disturbing comment (somewhere in the past) it kind of ticked me off.

Sorry, Spoiler:
I know you've wrote a lot, but there is one question that I need to ask... What the heck was the 3rd ending??? I have only ever found 2 endings (where Smith doesn't kill his children, or does kill his children). Does the 3rd one have to do with the man in the wheelchair? Sorry guys, hopefully I haven't spoiled anything. I won't say what happens, but you must play the game to figure out what actually happens for yourselves.

It's nice that you (SpaceGuitarist) can see the good and bad in the game. A lot of what you said has related to me as well. Referring back to my first comment, it's much easier to notice how I feel towards it.

MrQuetch, hey, for Sendell's sake, edit your post and DO PUT what you wrote to me in spoiler tags !! Those are highly dangerous spoilers !!

Now, to answer you...

Spoiler:

1st ending - where you are caught and die with a shot from your daughter, it counts as an ending because well you die without really having much choice, it's an entire cutscene
2nd & 3rd endings - the two you already know
