Outcast HD Remake on Kickstarter

Since I know that Outcast was pretty popular with LBA fans, I thought some of you guys might find this interesting. The original is still available on GoG, as far as I know.

Frankly, I think they could have done a better job with the KS launch (there are some grammatical errors and the tiers aren't presented that well), but its still a pretty neat idea, IMO.

(I never played it, mind you) It's an adventure game from the late 90s. A precursor of sandbox games (like GTA) but without all the violence. Back then got rave reviews and many people considered it innovative and sort of a revolution.

Alas, it didn't sell that well. So, the game became a critical hit, and a mass-market failure, loved by the guys that played it and ignored by all the rest.

Source: Read about the game in magazines, recap articles, reviews, etc. It's one of those games that always come up in talks of good old Adventure days.

Yep, it's a third person adventure game from the glory days of 3D adventure games in the 90s (like LBA). Like LBA, it's fairly open-worldy and has a sci-fi setting. If you haven't played it before, it is available on GoG for $6. It's definitely more action-focused than LBA, and it hasn't really aged as well as LBA graphically, but if you like LBA, you'll probably get at least some enjoyment out of it.

EDIT: As RGaspar said, it did well critically, and there was even going to be a sequel, but unfortunately it got cancelled and I believe the original developers declared bankruptcy.

Seems to have a interesting graphic style though... I might give it a go.

I played it years and years ago. The concept wasn't that different from lba's. But I didn't really like it, anyway. Don't ask me why... I'd give it a second chance.
I remember they were trying to make a sequel, when the company failed.

Wow; this is great news. Thank you for flagging it Fireball!

I agree with Gustav. This is one of the best action/adventures ever made, in my opinion. This and LBA1/2... Nothing quite touches them.

'Outcast' takes some getting used to and some time to 'get going' - but it is well worth the effort. It's 'living world'/character mechanics and all-round depth is still far ahead of most 'free roaming' games since. And it has an amazing atmosphere and orchestral soundtrack.

Too bad it didn't reach it's pledge...

sgk: Think of it this way: it's like a message in a bottle. In our world, we put a message inside a bottle to protect it while it travels through the oceans to reach some other island. In other worlds, they put a message inside an asteroid to protect it while it travels through space to reach some other planet. In this case it is a gift, a guitar, rather than just a message.
